Found an interesting article on the Dare Devle spoon. It's origins, history, etc.
Still made here in the good Ole USA.
They haven't sold out to be mass produced in China like some other companies have.
Very cool, thanks for sharing... makes me want to run out and buy another daredevil!

As a kid I too was obsessed with tackle boxes. I still have the tackle box that I received as a Christmas gift before I believe I even became a teenager. It's still full of what would be now considered vintage antique fishing gear.

Many years ago, much to my surprise, and I haven't got a clue as to how they got in there, I even found a pair of earrings in that tackle box from an old high school sweetheart that was taken from us far too soon. They remain there still and probably will be long after I'm dead and gone.

Sounds like you may have been rocking the boat way back then? 😉
Gotta love old tackle though.
I've got a few unique and antique lures myself.

I haven't looked in so long but now I'll have to go see if I even have a daredevil in that old tackle box. If not, I'll definitely have to go buy one.... if not only for the sake of nostalgia.

Forgot to mention that one of my most memorable fish I ever caught was not a big fish at all, but a hard earned 13" German brown caught on the trusty daredevil.

I have a mold that I made for the 6” flatfish 4mer speaks of. I could make you up some but you will need to rig and finish them.

Thanks for the offer.
I'm probably going to be to busy to work on something like that until next winter.
But, I'll keep it in mind for a possible trade at some point.

My dad's family always fished. My grandfather was awesome. Outside the High Sierra trout fishing opener at the end of April he did an annual trip with his buddies. In the late 70's they made a trip to "Great Bear Lake". His prize was a large artic char he mounted. Another friend caught a 60 lb Lake Trout on the same trip and had it mounted. I worked in his friends small tackle store when I was a teenager and looked at that Lake Trout mount everyday. When my grandfather passed away I inherited a bunch of large Dare Devil spoons in yellow/chartreuse with 5 orange diamonds. My guess is that he bought them for that trip.

I can still remember as a young boy being mesmerized seeing all those pictures of monster lake trout from Great Bear Lake and how I dreamed of fishing it one day.

Didn't see where anyone mentioned J-Plugs or Silver Hoarde plugs.

Probably because my focus for this thread was spoons.
That's the project related to this thread.
I'm sure those are great lures.
But not something I'm interested in working on at this time.
Btw Chris, Way back in the day when getting down to the Kasilof where Crooked Ck. comes in used to almost take a 4x4, there weren't a lot of people at that time. So being able to find places to utilize space, we used to cast out across the river with a one ounce Little Jewel spoon, let it bounce down in the current and those kings would pick them up off the bottom. Of course a king is not a laker, but you may want to look at their design and see what you think. I don't doubt lakers would like them too.

Yeah the state ruined a perfectly good fishing hole by building that camp ground……..

Yeah I remember us camping at the Moose River across from Isaac Walton’s. And we would drive down there my Dad and I in his Jeep in the late 70’s early 80’s. I thought it was a secret……..lol
