I took a friend out yesterday to drop him off at our moose camp. It is his first Alaska moose hunt, and he has to hunt as a non-resident (not a resident yet). When we got there and met another friend who had gone out earlier we found that all of our gear/equipment had been stolen.

Tent stoves, cots, camp chairs, pots, pans, coolers and cooking utensils, three portable tree stands, stolen.

So whoever stole the gear cashed at an established moose camp 7 miles off the highway, 2 miles north of six mile lake, east of the Parks Highway, Thanks a lot for that.

I've got to go and buy new stuff. Enjoy the gear you jerks.

A__Hats everywhere. In town and out in the woods. Sorry to hear you have been hit by the A__Hats. Hope you can salvage the hunt for your friend.

just curious, was it on public land? Are you legally able to stash gear? Could it have been people who work at the state or anything like that clearing stuff off the land? My buddies duck shack got taken down on the su flats, he found that out this year.

Well, It's on state land. Only accessible by four wheeler. Over two creeks, through the woods and over a swamp. We got stuck twice yesterday going out there. Only valuable stuff was taken. All the stuff deemed worthless was left. Earlier partners in the camp had been caching stuff out there for forty years. Can't be seen from the air.

I assume someone scouting for a place to moose hunt stumbled across the stuff and just took it. That's what it looks like.

What a friggin' drag!!! I can understand why some other countries cut off fingers from thieves and if they do it again cut off a hand. Yes, it pisses me off that much!!!

Hope you can salvage your hunt and still manage to have a good time....good luck!

I hate thieves! They are the worst kinds of people!
That being said you are correct on public land state or federal in Alaska you are not allowed to leave your camp for any more than two weeks.
I've got 120 acres of federal mining claims in the Chugach National Forest.
Even owning the claims does not exempt me from the two week rule.
The forest service even called me this summer to make sure we had not left any gear there and said they were going to check to be sure.
Though there is a process whereby I can file a "Notice of intent" and if approved I will be able to leave a tent or whatnot there for the mining season.
I'm going to work on that this winter.

after mark said there was still some useless stuff around, I would think its a safe bet that it was some scum bags
Yes, It does appear that way.
Though It also serves as a reminder to those thinking of stashing camps wherever they please.
Not only could your stash be illegal and seized by the government, but, it could also get stolen by thieves.
IMHO it's probably best that people do not leave camps stashed all over the Alaskan wilderness!

Sorry to hear :( It reminds me to put up a game camera on my camp when I'm going to be away for a long period of time. They may spot it and get it too, but then again maybe they won't. If you happen to get a pic/ID you could make their life a living hell 💀

Getting your stuff stolen definitely sucks, but leaving your stuff out on public land and treating it as though you own it because it's your "established moose camp" with 40 years of treating it like your private land is a different flavor of really terrible behavior.

They make game camera locks.
I use them on all my cameras.
Bought them keyed alike.

I couldn't agree more.
One has to wonder how many camps there are scattered across Alaska.
And how many get left behind when the owner gets sick or is unable to make the hunt or what have you?
I've seen pictures of old stashes people found that had obviously been left for years in remote areas.
Saddening to see this stuff left behind!

You have jumped to assumptions. We have never treated it like it's our private land. Many other parties are out there. Maybe "taken" is a better word. What ever happened to "If it's not yours, leave it alone."

Do you guys actually condone the taking of other peoples things? Maybe you guys are part of the problem.
