Hi everyone. I thought I’d share a project I’ve been working on, Alaska Bush School, which is my own YouTube channel of educational videos related to subsistence, survival, and wilderness skills. My three most recent videos detail some tarp shelters and advanced firebuilding in wet weather. I’ve also got videos in there of arctic winter camping, and lots to do with tracking and reading animal sign, even being chased by some baby muskox (that was interesting).

Some background: I grew up in a remote log cabin homestead in the upper Yukon, about 130 miles by river from the nearest other village/person. I didn’t know it at the time but all of the bushcraft skills, hunting and fishing, subsistence etc. were just everyday life. We were largely canoe, foot, and dog team powered, which made for quite the unique upbringing. I loved it and continue practicing all of those skills to this day. My videos may not be as flashy as some others, but the content is tried, tested, and very practical, especially because it’s all bush-Alaska focused.

So check out the channel, leave comments, and consider subscribing to see more videos. The channel is small right now as I’m just starting to advertise, but I have hopes to grow it into a larger community and eventually, start my own wilderness school where I live in Nome, Alaska (I’m currently a classroom teacher). That school would focus on outdoor skills, wilderness survival, bushcraft, and adventuring in the Arctic.

Thanks for checking it out!
