Well, I get the bonehead award. My bow strap broke and I had no safety chain on the bow eyelet.

The trailer immediately broke/split in the middle causing my Yamaha 25hp LS 4 stroke to bounce on the highway before I could get my rig stopped.

Is there any way to repair my shaved skeg? Do I have to buy a new lower unit? This motor is almost brand new.
Maybe a new "take off" from a jet motor?
I feel like a Darwin award nominee.... :(

There was a place in Anchorage called A1 prop and impeller that used to do fixit work like that. They repaired the skeg on my father in laws 70hp and it looked like new. I think they sold out or are contracting through another shop now but I don't remember the name. They used to be in the warehouse district around 72nd/Old Seward area. I think there was a thread about prop repair earlier this year where the new name was mentioned. Excellent work and considerably cheaper than a new lower unit.

If there's enough left to protect the prop and it only looks bad, then you only need to replace it if you don't like the looks. It won't affect performance. Don't ask me how I know :(

When you said you hit the road you weren't kidding! Hopefully you can find a solution. There are a few other types of skeg guards out there. You might also be able to pick up a lower unit housing on EBay. Just a thought.

hittin' the road...

hittin' the road...

I was one hour out of Port Alcan, 2am-raining, boat fully loaded (being pulled by a buku Uhaul.) It took some improvising to get the whole rig back together. The broken trailer made it another 2300 miles :).

I'm gonna watch Ebay, thanks Dave.
