This week end a friend and I fished with KEY-O's charters for winter kings and tanner crabs. We were blessed with great weather and great fishing for the three days we went out. Everyone on the boat got limits of crabs and kings on all three days. Had a great time.

I need to get out there. I really want to eat another winter king. I'm working my ice fishing shanty hard for the next week though in an attempt to get a Rainbow on the leader board for the tourney.

Wish I could get out!
But I'm stuck here at work on the slope.
My buddies have been going out of Homer and limiting out on Kings and tanner crabs as well in their personal boats. I keep seeing their Facebook posts and wishing I was there!

Good luck on the ice fishing tourney. I'm at 790 fish caught in my house this year so far. It's been a lot of fun. Going to move to another lake this Friday. Quartz is starting to drop off like it does in the spring.

Those tanners are cute. And here I thought you meant a different kind of winter king. (Although I am jealous of the salmon!)

I wish king crab was open with king salmon but they weren't. I had some king salmon last night and made some killer chowder this morning and they are scrumpcious. Love those king crab too.

Now that I know how to do it, I can. It's quite an expedition for me though.

I have never eaten a white one but many people say they taste/eat the same. IDK
We had opportunity to do a careful side by side comparison this past fall. The unanimous preference was for the colored fish. The white one had slightly coarser grained texture, and a leaner mouth feel... It gave the perception of being less fatty/flavorful. It's only one data point and could be 100% attributable to normal difference in individual fish, and have nothing to do with flesh color.

About 25% of my kings were white last summer.
