It was an absolutely beautiful day for the derby. Yes, "My Girlfriend" found the spot, landing five Kings in the afternoon following a slow morning. Its a buddy's boat. We had practice fished together a couple times in the past few weeks, but the "spot" ended up being somehwere other than we had tried in the past. Seemed every time he trolled through it he picked up a fish. He was completely stoked. Not only did he catch five, but one topped twenty.

We couldn't stand by and just hear about it though, so met up and picked up two kings on the Vienna Marie in the last hour, all almost right on the spot.

Will

Yup "my girl friend" gave us one hell of a ride!

Sunrise on the bay shortly before lines-in (and shortly after a boat was disqualified for calling in two fish 40 minutes before the derby actually started. Ha!):

The first fish on deck, landed only about 20 seconds before the second fish on deck:

The captain hard at work, navigating our vessel in obviously crowded, rough conditions:

Good work folks and thanks for all the pics. I recognize that pic Brian. Looks like Dave's smelling them out for ya.

Sounds like a great day on the water for all.

Attn Homer people!

Attn Homer people!

Hey if somebody has time could you run down to the harbor and pry his cold fingers off the wheel and reel in his downriggers. Break it to him gentley, but tell muttley the derbys over

See that green Hewescraft behind Jim in my 3rd picture? I'm not positive, but I think that might be Muttley. Perhaps he's still chasing those kings.

I've got to convince my wife's cousin to take us with them. Last year they got first and this year 7th and winner of kids or youth division.

He is either a lucky captain or he has it dialed in......

I'd venture to say the latter coho slayer. The man sounds like he's got it going on when comes to pressure fishing. Some of us rise to the occasion when the heat is on while others practice all year for the big one and, uh...well look at muttley for instance he'll knock the bottom out of half the cook inlet stocks 24/7/364 and that infamous number 365 in march comes along and its notoriously been a mofo.
