I was just in Sportsman's this weekend looking to pick up powder, etc and they didn't seem to have any - plenty of bullets and other items, but no powder. Any ideas on where to source in town? Thanks!
In 1995 the AKDGGS published a study documenting the distribution of all flavors of chert in the Brooks Range...Since we're talking about homemade powder here, does anyone know if there's any source of flint or any sort of chert suitable for knapping flints to be found out and about in the wild in Alaska?

If it were me I'd chat up the geologists at DGGS and inquire if anyone knows of a potential source somewhat less remote.I found it: https://dggs.alaska.gov/webpubs/dggs/pdf/text/pdf1995_032.pdf Very cool. Thanks! Doesn't look like I'm going to drive anywhere and dig up flint today, at least it would appear that the chert is a ways from the road system. Maybe a fly-in chert prospecting trip deviates a bit from the primitive muzzleloader thing, but would be fun.
