Have to come to the big city next week, so we are staying out by kink-goose bay on the 21st and hoping to fish some new hardwater on the 22nd. Would like to chase some char or lakers, not picky. Would just like a shot at something we don't have access to down here.
suggestions?

Big lake holds alot of good fish. Burbot, big char and bows, pike, LAndlocks. Not sure if its drivable yet though. Also Knik lake has big rainbows.

We will be on foot, and the kid still has a limp from breaking most of his metatarsals in October, so within a mile of parking tops....

We can catch plenty of stocked rainbows close to home. A shot at a nice char or a burbot is what we'd really like.

As mentioned prior, Long Lake out the glen highway passed chickaloon has lake trout, char, and burbot and easy access. About a 1/2 mile from the parking area you will find a large boulder that usually has decent fishing around it. It is a bit of a drive from KGB and is often very windy. Big lake has big char and some burbs. For ice conditions on big lake check www.flatlake.com.

Like you would know. You don't even icefish anymore. Did you go this weekend? Thought so!

Try driving out to flat lake ( connected to big lake) and walking out a short ways. Flat lake has pike, char, burbot and other fish

Okay, I think that based on input we will head for flat lake. Looks like access from where the road hits the canal between it and Mirror lake. I see what looks like a fairly steep drop-off just to the north right there, is that the sort of structure that might hold burbot? Any tips specific to the area would, of course, be appreciated!

Well, that was a bust. Parked at the access by mirror lake and hiked out a ways. All we found was a silt bottom in 6-8', no fish.

Spot on - That boulder area can produce some football size arctic char
