My assumptions are based upon what you wrote, so I apologize for reading what you wrote and assuming you meant what you wrote.

Hang in there, solstice is coming and cabin fever will soon be gone for another year.
No, I said "I didn't need to kill something during a float hunt to feel like I was successful" and you said "a float is not a hunt". If you want, I will post the quotes right here.

You know, you are talking way out of your scope, I'm the one on the float and you know nothing about it. Why don't you let me decide if it's a hunt or not.

You still haven't said why this thread is a "fishing expedition".

I haven't added cow fat to any game meat for years, that stuff leaves a gross film on anything it touches. Pork fat is way better than cow fat anyways, I only add that for sausage, or if I have some bacon lying around and want a bacon burger.

The only "magic" involved is properly tending to your meat. Cooking involves temperature and time. If you start with a good piece of meat and treat it right you end up with a good end product.

It all starts by processing my own meat, by doing that I know where my meat has been and who has touched it so I don't need to worry about the various diseases that are found on commercial slaughtered or processed meat, and I don't need to over cook my meat to make it safe to eat. I freeze my meat in the largest primal cut that I can manage and then grind as needed. Grinding and freezing meat leads to oxidization and if you grind in fat and then freeze you end up with oxidized meat with rancid fat, since fat will go rancid even when frozen. When I grind I liberally coat the meat with either olive oil or avocado oil.

Good quality meat will make a burger and stick together without cow or pig fat, just form a tight round ball and slowly press it flat to form a patty then place it on a plate and put it in the fridge for 10-20 minutes. Then use your cooking skills and the appropriate time and temperature, you don't need to cook game as much as you do cow or pig that's what leads to people not wanting to eat your dried out burgers.
That sounds great and is basically how I cook it too. Thanks for the detailed response! Good luck in the draws if you apply 🤙

Clearly it’s a fishing expedition because no answer given to you is going to change your mind or your understanding of others perspectives. You started it with an agenda.

A wise man once told me sometimes the best thing you can do is give them the acknowledgement they want and let it go. So with that said…. Mark, you’re right.

First of all, reread my first post . The very first thing I wrote was, These are my opinions and I wasn't imposing them on others. Then I asked for discussion saying "agree or disagree" I am open to almost all answers accept maybe yours because you have proven yourself unreasonable.

Second, I was asking for his reason he called this a fishing expedition not you.

Third, if you have read any of the discussion, I have been talking plenty with others about their perspectives. I have agreed with other perspectives on this topic and said I could see where they are coming from. I feel no reason to change my perspective on this because what I wrote is my opinion. If that's what I think, who are you or anyone else to say I am wrong on my own opinion?

I said, "I don't feel like I NEED to fill a tag to have a successful hunt" Who are you to tell me I am wrong? If your opinion is that you feel like you need to kill something to be successful, you are right and you are entitled to it.

You are having trouble telling the difference between a fact and an opinion. If you say beef is better than moose or anything else, it is your opinion, not a fact. But, you are still entitled to your own opinion, and cannot be wrong about it. Others here have a different opinion about it too, and they can not be wrong about their own opinions. If they like moose more than beef, who are you to tell them they are wrong?

I have enjoyed reading this post and all the responses. I can understand both opinions. But definitely am on the side of success = coming home with fish/fowl or animal.

My younger years, "success"absolutely was filling my tags. At that time, food was my goal and a necessity. Yet as I get older, the experience of being out there exploring is worth so much to me. I really enjoy hiking around the mountains, seeing things and exploring. I do still have the driving force to get my prey. Its primitive to me. Engrained in my soul. I can be perfectly content hiking around the mountains enjoying the experience but with a gun in my hand for the chance. But the "need" to kill an animal has decreased. I have spots I know I can go to and shoot deer but I like to check out new areas and find other spots. I feel more successful when I can get a deer at a new spot even though I chance going home empty handed.

As for the beef vs other meats... I rarely eat beef so I an no connoisseur of beef, but I must admit, I prefer my harvested meat to beef. I definitely wouldn't add beef fat to my burger. I do not like the taste/texture of it. I prefer deer fat and I am the person that leaves the fat on my game and keeps all of my extra deer fat to use for cooking. I add it into the pan when cooking moose or caribou for added flavor. Of course you can't beat Blacktail deer! My husband says he hasn't acquired the taste for the deer fat so I generally trim it off for him. I grew up very poor, eating whatever I could catch, kill or steal to be honest. (Sorry about the stealing part but as a kid, I did what I had to do.)

I'm not sure what to tell you Mark, maybe someone hacked your account and posted those words and attributed them to you for some strange reason? Feel free to quote me, but actually quote me don't use quotation marks and then put words I didn't say in there...like where I said "Going on a float isn't a hunt, going on a float hunt is a hunt, carrying a rifle on a float in the off chance you happen upon a stupid/unlucky animal isn't hunting, it's a float that you then decide to kill an animal on." That sure sounds different than what you've already very selectively misquoted me as saying "a float is not a hunt".

It's impossible to have a conversation with someone who refuses to acknowledge the words they wrote that are clearly recorded to be seen by all.

Look up fishing expedition on internet forums, that's what your post here is all about.

You certainly are a tall frosty glass of sour milk. I think you are the fisherman here. You certainly feel the need to jump in the post and show everyone what an intelect you are. If he is fishing, you definitely swallowed bait.

Thank you for the discussion. Exactly the kind of thing I like to read.

Is we get older, things change. Things change from necessity to want, and from want to something more casual.

I'm the same way, when I was a kid it was more important for me to kill something when I went out. As I got better and better at getting stuff I made it more challenging by putting controls on myself like using only a fly rod or hunting primarily with a bow. I am opting more for a quality hunt over quantity.

I think the key word is "opinion". Too many people think, if we say something as an opinion, that we are trying to state it as a fact.

Thanks again. Talk to you again some time.

PS, my brother-in-law is an ER Nurse

I'm not going to try to reason with the unreasonable. I'm tired of repeating myself. You are like my wife, always trying to prove that I (everyone is) am wrong. I'd say that's a problem with you not me.

I have reconsidered, I have decided to try to reason with you one more time.

When you are at home with a black bear or moose harvest ticket in your pocket in case a moose or bear comes in your yard, I agree with you that you are not on a hunt.

On the other hand, if I GO somewhere, on a float, and I am dressed in camo, there is an open season, I have a harvest ticket, three rounds in the chamber of a rifle, a pair of binoculars around my neck, I climb hills and glass, I am on a hunt. A float hunt weather or not I feel like I need to kill something to be successful.

Is it any clearer to you now? I don't know how to make it easier for you to understand. Now I'm done trying to reason with you.

Sounds like you need some marriage counseling. This is not the forum to vent your frustrations with your marriage. Good luck in the draws and trying to get everyone in the world to agree with you!

Nothing from Patsfan,...... crickets. You know what that means, He got nothin'.

I was wanting to ask him, why, if he thinks this thread is a fishing expedition, why does he want me to look up "fishing expedition" on the internet? How is the internet going to tell me why he thinks this thread is a fishing expedition.

Since we are on the subject of fishing expedition I'll tell you guys about my planned fishing expeditions.

After my musk ox hunt in March, I'll be driving a boat down to Lake Havasu to catch some of the biggest sunfish in the world. Like 17 inches long. We caught several in the 15 inch range in a week, last year. This year I am staying down there for a month, and I will condentrate on fishing with my fly rod..

In June, I'm going to the Innoko River, at home in Alaska, for a month to fish for pike with a fly rod. I would like to catch one bigger than my biggest pike so far, a 42.5 incher.

Now those are fishing expeditions.

Throughout the summer I'll be fishing in the Sitka area on four fishing trips of a week to ten days, Then there's the moose hunt, the deer hunts and all the ice fishing. It's a wonder I have time to sit here and talk to Patsfan at all.

I'm going to the fly tying room to tie flies.

You do know that goading him to continue posting in this now train wreck of a thread ain't really gonna accomplish anything positive for this thread. So why bother?
It takes two to tango. Just sayin'.........................

I've enjoyed talking to him, and all the rest of the contributors here. What makes you call it a train wreck? We've had some really good conversations here, you should read it.

The fishing expedition continues...

I thought I pretty well covered that when I said:

It's impossible to have a conversation with someone who refuses to acknowledge the words they wrote that are clearly recorded to be seen by all.

You are impossible to have a conversation with. I don't have conversations with people who are impossible to have conversations with. I'm more than happy to have conversations with people I disagree with, but if a person is nonsensical and refuses to actually try and have a conversation...no thanks. Best of luck on your other upcoming fishing expeditions.
