use a bead painted like an egg and fish behind some spawning salmon. I have caught some monsters on bead head prince nymphs.

Plenty of rainbows over 20 inches in even the stocked lakes if the stillwater is more your preference. Minnow imitations like rapalas seem to catch fewer but bigger fish. They aren't going to touch the monster rainbows of the Kenai River but I have seen them to 26 inches and have caught them to 24 inches in the stocked lakes.

Try fishing just as it gets dark or even at night. Big ones seem to feed at night better during the summer months.

Just waiting for the 30 incher on a dry... One of these days

As for advice for you, considering you live in north pole... There's a few C&R stocker lakes up there, fish those, the put and take lakes aren't gonna have much over 20 inches anyway. Or head south of the AK range

ICE FISHING AND DAD 017.jpg
About 25". White leech jig in 8' of water or so.

Ice Fishing 002.jpg
This one was about 20". Caught on a black leech jig in 5' water. Roughly the same spot as the one above, only off by maybe 20 or 30 feet. Trick is be patient. I waited at least 2 hours on each fish without getting a bite before they showed up.

Granted these were caught ice fishing but I've caught a few in the summer time about this size.

Back in my non fly fishing all the time days (like when I was 14) I hooked a 30+ inch fish while pike fishing with a white spinnerbait, I even caught a 21" fish on a green label herring also while pike fishing... so much for pike eating all the trout...

Uhh...small green pixie...why do I feel a bit stupid for suggesting a pixie even though the pixie catches more fish along with the vibrax spinner than everything else combined!

From the big su....few years back... 26inches with 16 inch girth.

I agree with G_Smolt use flesh flies also big leeches (string leches) they'll catch you some monsters. caught this boy on a white and black one when i was 10 since then only caught one other that size (on beads). Nice fish guys

It's more fun to let the wife catch the big ones.

I usually do better fishing with beads but flesh flies work for bigger fish especially in deeper water.
