Who doesn't know they have an entire wheelbarrow full of frozen fish in their freezer? Oh right a guy in Wasilla near Walmart...this stuff writes itself.

and i am sure they are the ones who are complaining about the commercial guys taking all the fish so they cant feed their family. Granted i know it happens to people but it should only happen once and even then you should just not keep as many the next year. Happened to me one year but we ate it or gave it to friends. Now i have a much better system for rotating meat in the freezer and much more control when keeping fish. I cant stand people who do that and they should get a wanton waste ticket. Happens every year around this time right before dip netting. You can bet you butt they willl be out dipping their families limit of fish again.

I've actually once saw a guy using a wheelbarrow to get his fish off the beach on the kasilof south beach.
As he passed me he said "time to clean last years fish out of the freezer to make room for the fresh".
I just mentioned only keeping what you need for a year and moved on.
you can't fix stupid and dipnetting gets people so excited they often do overharvest. I see this every spring on the Facebook marketplace and craigslist as people attempt to give away their old fish to feed peoples dogs, etc.
it is a shame.
Maybe if they charged a few of these people others would wise up? I really doubt it though!

Wanton waste is basically only when you waste before it's been processed.

Legally, that is probably correct. But from a practical standpoint, waste is waste regardless of whether is it's wrapped in plastic or not. If the food was still in edible condition, they should have consumed what they had in the freezer before continuing to harvest more.

That's what I meant.....legally, after quoting him saying, "I feel like that is something he could get ticketed for."

I've seen people ticketed for using the same thing for bear bait, and rightly so. For some reason it's not the same thing for some people to just throw it away.

I think some people think it's a macho thing to throw that much surplus away and kill more.

I just dont get how someone could legally go kill something, wrap it up freeze it and throw it in the garbage with no repercussions. Seems pretty dumb and wasteful and those people who do that need to be dealt with.

My BS meter is going off on this one. Wasilla, Wal Mart, 1 hour? Sounds more like somebody trying to diss dip netters to me.

Have you seen that done before? I'm just asking because like I said above, I do believe wanton waste only applies to before fish and game has been processed.
Correct. Throwing away food from your freezer is not a crime as far as the AK statutes are concerned. And wasting food is the American way, so...

There may be a distinction between throwing away and using it for bear baiting or dog food. I have seen people sited for using freezer meat for bear baiting and dog food. I have seen trooper very interested in wild meat in the dumpster but now that you mention it, I haven't seen anyone sited for throwing it away.
