OzAK;
Sent you a PM, Phantom related.
Mike

HCL, tried sending you a PM, error caused by your stored PM box being full, would not accept any more messages. My reply was 5000 characters long. If I have to type it again I'll scream. Oz

85?

85?

Any estimates on how fast this scalded cat will be??

Are you going 85 mph? Waves might be tough, but other than that, you're winning pink slips left and right.

OzAK,

The Vtec cams are operated by oil pressure. Below the vtec point (RPM related) you are in the efficiency cams and your motor won't be producing its advertised max hp. When the vtec cams kick in your motor will be a screaming. I think your motor has a redline of what 8,000 or more RPM. Should make a great durable jet motor setup. Ideally your boat should be able to cruise below the vtec switch over point so you are operating in the fuel efficient cam profile. On some of the Honda cars a little vtec light will come on when you are into the vtec cams.

Not knowing if you have you have used jet ski pumps before. It seems like they have a limit to the rpms you can run with them.
There is a fella named Dave who owns Impros who is a custom jet ski impeller designer/builder out of Arizona. Super cool guy and extremely knowledgeable. He is also willing to talk shop. He would would be a great resource in that department. Just a thought.

Fred tells me that the guy that started/owns Skattrak is the same way, he got loads of practical info from him and he was excited about the project. Seems that with his mods the RPM and horsepower shouldn't be an issue. Here's hoping.

Very cool jetboat update

Very cool jetboat update

For all that are still interested and you new boat nuts that missed this thread....
Stopped by Freds tonight and checked out the progress. Not a huge amount to report but he's poised to put the cherry picker on the Honda Motor and shoehorn it into place in the hull. The details take time to get right and can be subtle in nature.
1. Headers/exhaust in general, all welded up by Karolds Welding here in Fbks, backgassed as they should be for a nice smooth outcome inside for good airflow.
DSCN1606.jpg DSCN1602.jpg 2. Yamaha pumps turn CCW looking at them from the rear. Generally, most automotive application engines turn CW when viewed from the same place. Hence the need to adapt the engine to turn the pump from the front of the crank. An extremely close-fitting 4140 steel drive adapter was made by Alaska Tool Co. (Here in Fbks as well.) It registers on 3 dowel pins in the front end of the crank inside the belt drive pulleys and is bolted in place. The drive coupling is stock Yamaha.
3. Note the bellhousing, cut away to less than half. With no clutch needed, just the flywheel need be there to supply the ring gear for starting and a place to mount said starter.
