Hello, so moose season wrapped up, this year we took a buddies boat, a smaller 16-footer, all welded, instead of by riveted john. Long story short, I'm looking for a welded hull. I've run my boat for 6-7 years, and just want to upgrade. When I started my search 7 years ago, I wanted a Wooldridge Alaskan anyway, so that's what I'd like to upgrade too.

So I'll start watching the used market. I'll most likely use my current motor, which is 2-stroke 115.

What I'm looking for is some general rules of thumb for wooldridge pricing. To get it into my price range I'm already figuring it's going to be a 1990-2005 ish model. And one that needs to be rebuilt most likely too. So it's a loaded question I know, but whats a general price range on something like this. There are some on CL, but not many. Not sure where the market is for these.

Also, currently watching Craig's List, Alaska List and the Facebook Marketplace. Are there other avenues I should be looking at?

Thanks

Wooldridge allows used boats to be listed on their site.

When I do a search for used Wooldridges I often get to some boat sites (Boat Trader?) that list various Wooldridges across the country...often pretty old ads.

My take on used boat value is it's basically whatever the market supports. If used boats are in high demand, you'll see higher prices. When its not a popular boat buying part of the year, prices drop. You'll get your best price this winter, before it starts ramping back up again in spring.

Watching those sites you've listed, and keeping a general tab on what boats are going for, will give you a real world feel for what a used boat is worth. We could throw numbers out there, but really a boat is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it, so you're best served by keeping tabs on what the local market is doing. And of course you can always look out of state, prices will most likely be cheaper but you'll pay to bring it up.

2nd Woolys website for used. They aren't on the market long as you are seeking one of the most popular jet boats out there, if priced accordingly.

Thanks gentleman, I had actually debated posting this or not, since you are correct, pricing is what a willing party will pay. Maybe too, my unofficial wanted to buy ad too if someone was sitting on a hull,,,

I'll throw out a bigger net with the serach engines, and watching out of state is a great idea. If nothing else since there would be more to access.

To actually pencil some numbers, I've been seeing $10-15K for older standard Alaskans, in the $20's for newish and four stroke AK and AK XL models. Looking to stay in the 10-15 lol. There is one on CL right now for $12K. It's a little too soon for me, I won't have additional storage for a couple months, so really just getting a handle on costs

I'm running a 18-foot 1970's valco. Love the boat, served me well. I think it comes down to the hull design and the welded rigid frame, but my buddies boat seemed much more responsive on step, cut very well, etc. anyway, time to upgrade!

I just upgraded from a 79 22ft valco yukon jet to a brand new 20ft alaskan xl sportjet. Im more than impressed with it. Ive been in the kashwitna, talkeetna, big sue, little sue and the knik all the way up to lake george. All over the place. Have yet to have any issues, 80hrs going strong. No regrets at all.

Alaskans are nice boats, I had one with a 115/80 4S, max load from my experience was ~1100 pounds, 2 guys, gear, moose, fuel and you can be heavy enough to not get on step. This was a older one with 52" bottom, if it was the 60 incher, I probaly would have kept it. Doubt you will find one of the newer ones in your price range. That being said if you plan to hunt with two boats and or shorter trips than no big deal.
Great boat in any case. Handled nice, built well, fun to operate.
