Hi all,

What is the temperature around 5 feet down around the Anderson area? Thanks.

That'll be very much dependant on the amount of sun that hits the ground. Southern slopes will have no permafrost and be a bit warmer then the northern slopes with permafrost.

During the summer you'll have good luck with a root cellar, assuming that's the reason you're asking.
To answer your question, summer temps of 40-55 is probably the norm for ground temps in areas with no permafrost.

Of course it's all frozen during winter.

The Alaska Agricultural Experimental Farm worked for decades to resolve the issues with Root Cellars in Alaska, and failed. The problem is controlling the humidity and ventilation. For refrigeration the ground works great for non-humidity variable storage. There is an excellent book on this subject.
