This occurred to me the other day when I was salvaging a Siglin style sled from the transfer site. Could a canoe be made from UHMW?

I'm not gonna try it with this piece, it looks like the previous owner threw it away because it was getting brittle. They took what hardware they could and threw the rest away. But for the cost of hardware, some of which I may have already, I'm gonna try to rebuild it and get some use out of it.

Be safe out there!

I wonder if spray foam will adhere to the YHMW
that would be a great way to tighten the flexible nature of that stuff..
Maybe?

No. Thats why it makes such good sleds, is the extremely low coeffecient of friction which of course also makes bonding very difficult. There is some stuff that I have not used called Rel-Tek Bondit, and 3M makes some stuff too which work on UHMW but very expensive.

Not trying to discourage you, aknative! I am a huge fan of UHMW and would love to see a canoe out of it! Maybe a large sheet, heat-stretched over a form?
