The plan is tentatively set but flexible. Dont have the jet boat option so we're flying in to Carman Lake. Setting up camp there for a few days while we check out the moosey country by the inlet. Then floating down the river to the next camp area around one of the two confluences with Glacier Creek or Twentymile and then, just being patient. Tough for me to do, but everyone says thats what you gotta do. Coming from the lower 48, what we dont have is a feel of the country. We'll float down in a 15' self-bailing oar-rigged raft and have a 15' Arc Outfitter Hybrid with a motor mount for a little 2.3 hp Honda.
We know its thick, so Im ok pulling up a chair, doing some calling and waiting.
I guess Im looking for any river, fishing, moose hunting, calling, rafting, fishing tips or pointers for the Twentymile River system. Sometimes little tidbits make all the difference. Constructive criticism is even welcome.
Appreciate it!

There are previous threads with info if you look at the search area here. If you do not find it, google 20 mile river moose hunting and threads from the outdoor forums pop up.

One big thing to remember is that the water levels can fluctuate a lot in a very short amount of time. Think multiple feet overnight. If you are camping along the river, make sure things are tied off higher than you might normally consider and that you don't leave loose things on the beach or down low near the waterline. People have lost the boats and even their camps due to rapidly rising water on 20 Mile in the past.

Great reminder.

I keep thinking about you sitting in a chair calling next to a salmon/bear stream, I assume you're kidding? When a moose calls their sound is not very loud and can easy be cover up by the water. So, you need to get away from the stream

You already know about the brush; the 20 miles is also known for days of rain and wind during the hunting season. I found it helpful to know how to call and hunt moose in brush, wind or rain.

Yeah, the Twenty Mile drainage would definitely NOT be my choice if I had that permit, but to each their own, I guess

All good advice. Thank you. Some advice more cryptic than others. Mykolaivka887, I would love to hear where you would focus your efforts? Is the traffic on the river why you would avoid it? There's not many road systems in the unit and the only other river that has seemed doable is the Placer. I'd love to talk to you via a pm or offline as well if youre inclined.
Thank you.

what is the hunt number? is the area the hole end of turnigan down there? 20 miles gets alot more boat traffic then the placer or the placer overflow.

if it was me i would be checking out the placer. ADFG might have some insight. smaller river and less boat traffic. also they have gotten rid of poor excuse for a boat launch on the placer for the new bridge so there might not be any boat traffic up that way this year.
