Too early for halibut out of whittier?

Just curious how early is too early. Ive caught them the middle of may but never tried in april.

Nope, it's never too early. The earlier you go, the deeper you should fish to find consistent results, but regardless - there are fish there all year long.

Personally, I have only had luck early down by the entrances.

I'd say it is too early as there have been a number of studies that indicate halibut don't really feed until April and May - at least consistently. I'm certain there exceptions to this though.....I have caught really nice butts out of Seward in early May.....
