They will probably all have their preference as to what bullet they like. Some of it may depend on how much room you have in the magazine box, as far as choices go. A friend shoots 180 grain Barnes TSX out of his Mod. 70 .300 Short Mag. His brown bear required one bullet as did the Koyukuk moose and some caribou.
I would think that bullet or a Nosler Partition would do all any .300 SM could be asked to do. I would also look at Hodgdon Extreme powder line as those powders remain fairly consistent with big temp swings.
