I see it around here.....and yes it is scary.
What a pile of moose nuggets. Convenient "that since the 1970's there has been a decline", isn't that when global cooling first starting rearing its head. Then it became global warming and now its climate change.

Wow. Only 3 years and we will see 66 percent of the world's vertebrate population disappear. We need to find out a better way... make the mosquito population disappear instead!

I think that we should seriously consider the continued decimation of habitat that is the primary driver of this collapse of wildlife populations. It's not primarily a global warming issue. It's primarily a global population issue. For all the discussion of global warming, it is striking that nobody is really talking about global population growth right now - but that's a far greater (and related) threat to wild space and wild animals.
Closer to home, I read that Vic Fischer was asked about the greatest threat to the Alaska that he and his fellow constitutional delegates were trying to protect. His answer - over-population.
It's easy to dismiss such a critique, when you fly over the wide open spaces of Alaska - but any of us who hunt and fish and backpack and float rivers experience that. In Alaska we aren't experiencing significant habitat loss... yet. Much of the world is and has.

Did you read the article? Global warming/climate change was a footnote. As crappy as the states economic situation is the one silver lining is that the population in AK isn't going up.

For those who didn't bother to read the article what the report says, in short is this:
The world's human population is destroying the habitat of every other creature on the planet and will lead to a mass extinction of the vast majority of other vertebrate (and many other) species unless something drastic happens and happens soon.
In a single century the human population increased more than 360% (from 1.6 billion to more than 7.4 billion) and it will expand to 9 billion by 2050. (It was estimated to be between 1 and 15 million 10,000 years ago, 370 million after the "Black Death, and about half a billion in 1800.) This incredible increase means we humans are, to use a term all hunters farmers, and ranchers can understand, "overgrazing" our own habitat.
The world's wildlife populations are suffering from over-hunting and over-fishing as people try to feed themselves (think about the demand for African "bush meat"). Wildlife habitat is being destroyed in order to feed the ever-growing human population. More than a third of the planet's surface is now farmland. More farmland will be needed to support another 2 billion people within the next 30 years. Farmland, residential subdivisions, skyscrapers, asphalt, and concrete do not support a diverse population of wildlife.
In addition to the direct over-exploitation of habitat and wildlife there are a number of other ways in which human overpopulation causes collateral damage that leads to decreased populations of wildlife. Among these are pollution, and the intentional and unintentional introduction of invasive species that either directly compete with indigenous wildlife populations or destroy their habitat. Climate change (whether you believe it is primarily human-caused as the science demonstrates or is just "natural") is changing the planet's temperature and precipitation patterns that the habitats and animals those habitat's support have evolved to tolerate/prosper within. These changes strain and destroy the food resources of wildlife populations and "force entire populations to migrate or face extinction".

NYC, the Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes are were formed from glaciers a few hundred thousand years ago and they have been receding ever since. Global warming has been going on for a LONG time...
When any of these "experts" can accurately predict the weather for tomorrow, then maybe I will start to believe they can predict it 20 years out
