Because of the strong winds I wasn't sure if I would be able to steady the tripod well enough to be able to get any decent shots of the Northern Lights from 3/1/2011. You can see the winds effect in the tops of the trees and causing some slight star trails by bumping the tripod.

Outstanding shots, Eddie!

According the the Auroras forecast at UAF, it's supposed to be nice Wednesday evening next week.

I just saw that, Ray. I might have to make a trip up north for that one. Anything else up there to photograph? Hey, are the ice sculptures still... Ice?

They are all awesome but I agree the one looking up through the trees in the first posting is amazing. Very beautiful. It must have been a fun morning.

something about the extent to which objects in the shot are slightly out of focus, and the swirl of the lights, lends to me doing a double take as I consider whether it's a reflection in water and then realize it's not.

it is one of the more fluid photos i've seen in quite a while.

Hey, sorry for the LONG delay in responding to your comment. Yes, it was a pretty amazing morning shooting the lights! One of the more memorable to date! Thanks much!

The night I shot these images of the lights, the wind was blowing extremely strong causing the blurred out of focus appearance to the trees. I know others who didn't shoot that night because of the wind. They felt that the camera wouldn't remain still enough to capture any photos worth saving. It takes a lot to keep me from getting out to shoot the lights when they are active. Thanks much for your thoughts and perspective on these pics.
