Still need some help....

Still need some help....

So far we have raised $350 for this family. I kind of expected more for the quality of weapons that are on here and the cause... Are we doing something wrong?

Times are tuff, but that’s ridicules! I got my ticket and hope I will win, but win or not I am happy for how my money is to be used. Maybe you could get Bushmaster and Beretta to sponsor your raffle with free links or something.

Come on guys this is for a soldier in need and you get a shot at winning a Bushmaster AR 223 and a Beretta bull-pup type 45acp rifle, winner takes both rifles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a win-win, even if you don't win, it’s overseen by a reputable charity!!

Thank you

Thank you

Any and all support is greatly appreciated. I would start an email chain and see how far it gets around the net before it gets squashed but I am not a spammer. We are raising money for this soldier and his family plain and simple. It is slow going but it is working. Thank you once again and I hope we can reach our goal of $3,000. So far we are not even close with the $650 but I have faith that the people such as yourself will rally around this family in their time of need.

So far we have managed to help get this family together and find them a place to rent where they can be together. Those don't come without costs of course. They were able to sell their house with our help but still are in the hole because of the moving expenses. Their oldest son is remaining with family until the school year is over as to not interrupt his education and they are trying to start over. Once the raffle is complete we will pay as many as their bills as we can with what is raised to allow them to have the best, freshest start that they can and move forward.

Once again Thank you for the support!

You're welcome and count me in.

Where do I send the ticket money? I may have missed that looking through the posts. I'll take two tickets, just tell me where to send the money. Thanks Mike, for all your work on this.

Thanks for the sticky!

Thanks for the sticky!

Thank you very much for the Sticky! I know the family will appreciate it as well. As far as Berretta or Bushmaster are concerned I don't have the foggiest ideas on how to contact them or even approach them. I am a fisherman and a soldier. I do like to shoot weapons but as long as they go "Bang" and hit what I intend of them to hit then I am good. I own a few guns for home protection of various calibers but that is about it.

If you think that you may be able to help this family by contacting them then by all means please do. I will do whatever they need me to do from our end to make things happen.

Thank you again for the support of this family!

We have currently Raised $650 for this soldier and his family. We have 17 days left in this raffle and it may cost more to ship them to the winner than we will have raised. If you can help to promote this raffle then please do to help this family.

Thank you.

Still just $650 worth sold?

Still just $650 worth sold?

That’s truly pathetic, either gun is worth that by itself! The Bushmasters like this sell at around $1000 and up while the Beretta CX4s sell at around $800 on Gunbroker.com, $50 for a shot at $1800 or more worth of guns is not bad at all!:D

Come on guys, I don't want to feel like a thief if I win!
I know times are hard and money is tight for all of us proud new partners in General Motors, but I know some of us can afford a $50 raffle ticket and help a charity that helps our soldiers. I understand some don’t have the money, but spreading the word is free.;)

I have got one ticket and if I could afford more I would sure buy more, but one was all I can responsibly do for the time being. I just went in debt to bring my Mom and Dad to Alaska for a visit, I have not seen them for over 2 years. They have never been to Alaska and at their ages (Mom’s 83, Dad’s 91 now) there may not be another summer remaining for them to see Alaska before they can’t get around or pass on. As you can imagine their visit is a very high priority and occupying much of my time and money this summer. Took me 9 years to talk Dad into coming at all, he always says he saw all of the world he wanted as a Marine during WWII.

What I have done is tell everyone I know about this raffle, emailed everyone in my address book about it, and tried to encourage other forum members here to get on board with the raffle. I don’t know what else to do and I’m amazed it has not taken off like wild fire.

buy two raffle tickets

buy two raffle tickets

(...standing on soap box...)
Seriously guys, this is where the rubber hits the road. There is only two more weeks left in this program to provide a helping hand for Sgt Travis Schmiesing.

Let's assume that you greatly enjoy being outdoors here in Alaska. I think that's great; I know I do. I imagine some of my favorite wilderness spots I've found, and they comfort me even while I today am forced by circumstances to be here in the big city.

Now compare that happy place with Sgt Schmiesing with doing his duty for his country (that means that he did for you) in nasty Iraq. And worse yet, while he was there doing for you he was damaged and is still trying to recover.

Can you sit idlely by and do nothing to help him now? Can you?

If you don't have 50 clams to offer, get a buddy and each put in 25, deciding in advance which of you would get which one of the two fine firearms offered as the raffle prize.

Or if that's too much moola than forget the raffle and just send a buck. Or five.

C'mon people, we need to show our troops that we care about them. Help one soldier at a time - this is the place to start.

Let's show Sgt Schmiesing that Alaskans support our American troops more than any other state; even Texas.

(...gets down from soap box...)

I've got two tickets myself. I don't plan to win and don't need to win. Every one of you that goes out and buys a raffle ticket now decreases my own chances of winning. But that's what I want - I want every one of you to go buy that ticket right now.

My plan is to help with this now, and then help our troops more, a different way, later. To do what I can. This is what I need to to, to both feel better about myself and my place in this world, and to better enjoy my own happy place when I imagine myself back in the wilderness where the only noises are the birds bears and caribou.

I'm sorry to get preachy and to 'tell' you what to do with your own money; I mean no disrespect nor intrusion. And I feel a bit better after getting this off my chest.

Lastly, big thanks to Mike Strahan for not only allowing his (this) forum to be used to help promote this cause of offering a helping hand to a soldier that needs it, but also for designating it as a 'sticky' so it stays at the top.

I am going to post this on the fire department union webgroup and my facebook page but I am having trouble finding a page that tells the soldiers story. Can anybody point me toward it?
