wow took less than a week for the first alert - just got an email from the kids' school saying a staff member has symptoms of H1N1.

Not a surprise, but I can't imagine how much more of this there is going to be in a month or two.

Everyone wash their hands, cover that cough, and try to stay healthy! And stay home if your sick, PLEASE!

I think Swine Flu is a part of the propoganda to push socialized medicine.

It's not really a big killer.

But, the "fear mongering" from the left has everyone scared of it as if it were the black plague.

So pray to God and Superman that the government rescue us from a mild cold.

I have a new baby and an elderly grandparent around my house - any flu season can be an issue for either of them.

I don't doubt there is some amount of hype going, but I also don't have any interest in dismissing the hazard because of that.

True enough ak... any flu is a killer to the weak or infirmed. But, the Swine Flu is nothing compared to AIDS and that hasn't stopped unprotected sex, and, the global population hasn't died off yet.

Death, and disease are both natural factors in society... as is birth and health.

Really? We're going to compare Swine Flu to AIDS? Holy apples-n-oranges batman, this ain't gonna work.

Here's an analogy for you... just like all the knuckleheads running around claiming that every little thing in our environment is caused by "Global Warming", anyone who has the "sniffles" is going to be accused of having Swine Flu due to all the media hype.

There is no way to tell by outward appearance whether someone is showing the symptoms of Swine Flu or any one of 200 other Influenza strains. It takes a lab test to determine which flu strain it is... if it's the flu. The "sniffles" alone is not the flu. Flu symptoms include sudden onset of fever, headache, extreme exhaustion, cough, sore throat, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting, and the "runny nose". If you've ever had the flu, you will not soon forget it. It's much, much worse than a "cold".

While it is great to take precautionary measures to avoid getting sick (hand washing), if the school districts or government agencies start sending out "alerts" every time someone gets the "sniffles", then we're heading down the "crying wolf" path. These agencies need to wait for laboratory confirmation of a case of Swine Flu before announcing it as such. In the mean time, just practice common sense tactics to avoid ALL illnesses.

The only comparison I was making was, like with AIDS, the Swine Flu has sirens blaring, and babies crying.

You actually made the same point I was attempting to make JOAT. There are inumerable flu strains, and, several of them make the swine flu look like a tickle fight in pink fuzzy pajamas.

These things have occurred through the history of the planet - and, will continue long after we're gone if we don't destroy everything first.

One of the problems is that most places have quit even testing for it for confirmation. Guess they got tired of tracking an "epidemic".
