Anybody fish the Kenai in Soldotna area? Any report? I figure two consecutive days of 29000 might have reached there by now. Thanks in advance.

I would also appreciate the dipping report at the mouth.

With Centennial just less than a mile upriver from the sockeye sonar, it's basically a real-time "what you see is what you get" kind of deal.

When they say 30K swam past the sonar, they're essentially saying 30K swam past Centennial

GF and 9 yr old son spent about 2 hours in pouring rain at Swiftwater today. Didn't land any legally hooked fish, but between the two, they hooked up about every 20 minutes. So not hot action but for those willing to grind it out, there seems to be catchable numbers.

If action was slow for the dippers, the initial slug of fish are likely past Swiftwater now. But as of this morning/afternoon, Catchable numbers were present.

Is fishing Centennial or Swiftwater still producing fish? I am going to be in the Ninilchik area Aug 2-8 and would love to get into some Silvers. If anyone has any bank fishing recommendations for that time please let me know. Thanks everyone.

It may not be hot, but my guess is we will have fishable reds into the first week of August given the indexes and what we see in the river. So far this year, espceially when the water is high, I give the nod to swiftwater over centennial. Swiftwater tends to concentrate fish more in high waters. They just pass through centennial from what I have witnessed this year.

Toss more Coho salmon oriented flies (NOT the coho flies you see labled for reds.)and you will have a shot at both silvers and reds then.

Thanks Kardinal_84 - I am actually just brining spinning gear (my wife is going to be along and doesn't fly fish). I have two 8'6" Fenwick Salmon rods with Shimano Sedona reels with 8lb mono on them. What type of gear should i be tossing? Vorax spinners? Eggs and Bobber?

Fished Swiftwater on Friday night. An occasional one being caught here and there by others; nothing like past years. The red fishing this year was very disappointing all summer long. Has the red fishing been ruined there like the king fishing? Is this the beginning of the end?

I've been out three nights now with a grand total of 1 landed. This has been the worst year I've seen in 8 summers up here now. I know the counter says 30,000 but the river is fishing like 10,000, not sure why.

I managed one fish on Saturday morning at swiftys and a limit at swifty's yesterday.

The idiot on the island kicking his snagged fish up onto shore and then popping their gills and kicking them back in should be shot. At least some people finally said something to jackarse.
