It appears that he died back in 08 after stalling while circling around some whale bones. What a shame. He was a talented photographer.

He was a skilled Cub driver, who sadly made the most unforgiving possible Super Cub pilot error. Very sad. Still we are blessed with his adventure.

Skilled cub drivers tend to not die doing stall/spins...maintaining a minimum airspeed while circling an object is an essential skill.

There several or factors that come into the dynamics of "stall/spin", then "simply" Maintaining Minimum Airspeed.

Ok then...I’m maintaining a minimum airspeed of 60mph while circling. Tell me how I’m going to stall? Keep in mind that I do this for a living, I’m orbiting an object at 60mph, not making steep-uncoordinated turns...just orbiting at 60...is there some way I can stall this PA18 at 60mph, in the conditions I’ve described?

If you have a "Commercial" Pilots License, you should know the answer to this, if you "Don't" have a "Commercial" Pilots License, you should consider getting one.

so you are going to evade the question...the point is, you have a minimum airspeed for the aircraft, under the current conditions, that is based on weight, winds/turbulence, you factor that in to your decision and maintain that minimum airspeed. We are talking about an experienced pilot who can fly coordinated turns around a point...

Are both wings flying at the same speed......??? Which wing is telling you your air speed.....??? Is that wing on the inside or outside of the turn......???

Just so we’re clear here, we are not doing steep turns... turns around an object on the ground at 30 degrees bank or less. We are taking pictures or trying to see if a moose is legal to hunt, whatever. Minimum airspeed 60mph circling, not doing steep turns. Can I stall a PA-18 at 60mph doing 30 degree banked turns or less?

Sure ya can! Maybe you picked up a good bit of ice on the leading edge!

Maybe you’re indicating 60kias but your pitot system picked up some ice.

Maybe it’s extremely windy and you turn from 60knot headwind to a 60 knot tailwind, things are going to get weird.

Maybe there was sudden and abrupt wind shear, creating a downforce that stalled the plane.

Maybe AGL4Now will always cause us to talk in circles and sit here and go what if what if…
