Here’s the details…

Date: Saturday May 28th
Location: Susitna Landing, 11.5 miles north of the Deshka landing turn off

The plan is to have a BBQ at noon on the 28th. We’ll have burgers and hot dogs donated by Marita Sea & Ski. If anyone wants to bring other dishes that’d be great, I’ll let you guys work out those details. After the BBQ we’ll do a drawing for a few door prizes. OzAk has done a great job getting a few items for prizes donated by local businesses, for example, a $150 gift certificate toward an impeller rebuild from Greatland Welding and some miscellaneous boating items from Compeau’s in Fairbanks.

Then it will be onto the water. I’m still not sure how we’ll coordinate everything, the best idea so far is to just have a sign-up sheet on the bow of each boat that is willing to take folks out. I assume we’ll stay on the water until everyone has had a chance to check out all of the boats they desire.

Some folks mentioned a desire to make a run somewhere with a destination in mind, for example the Talkeetna. That sounds like a great idea to me, but my primary goal is to let the folks check out the different boats in the afternoon and then make a run somewhere afterwards.

The gentleman up at the landing is doing a fantastic job trying to accommodate us. His name is Jeff, give him a buzz if you want to make camping reservation for the weekend. He is going to try his best to keep us all together in LOOP “C”. It is the quietest area of the campground but there is no hook ups for RV’s. The adjacent loop does have RV hookup’s.

There are 24 camp sites in LOOP “C” but there is a lot more room to “double up” in the sites or just pitch a tent. Jeff is willing to allow us to cram in all we want to, he just requests that all vehicles that are sharing a site pay the $6 parking fee, which is more than fair if you ask me. If you plan to launch a boat and also camp, Jeff said that he’d only charge the boat launch fee once for the entire weekend, so you’ll be able to pull your boat out of the water at no extra cost if you desire.

Here are the prices:
Campsite with full hookups $24 per night
Campsite with no hookups $12 per night
Parking only $6 per night
Boat launch $14

If you want to camp, I’d suggest calling Jeff sooner than later, spots are filling up fast. He even said that a guy from out of state has already reserved a spot to attend the event. Here’s the number to the landing, 495-7700.

** Be sure to have all of the required safety gear on your boat, ie life jackets, flares, etc… If you are unsure what is required you can find the list of items on the state website.

** Greatland Welding is performing Customer Safety Inspections free of charge on May 14th. There will be hot dogs, burgers, and balloons for the kids. They’ll be open from 10am to 4pm.

Another thing that isn’t quite worked out is the actual BBQ to cook on. We’ll probably need a couple. Any ideas?

I plan on being there the 26th. I have been trying to call Jeff to make my resv, but have not caught him yet. I plan to bring potato salad and chips for the BBQ. Can some one tell me how far away the nearest fuel would be? Thanks Dan

No fuel at the landing as of now....he is trying to get a tank onsite but no timeline as of now...you'll have to pack extra fuel or run 12 miles south to willow to fill up...

I'm in. I don't know how that "out of stater" got wind of this...I hope you folks aren't mean to him.

I've got spot #41 for Friday, Sat., & Sun. Leaving on Mon. I'll be tent camping and am willing to share the spot with another tent camper; you just have to pay the extra parking fee to Jeff. Warning: the wife says I snore some times.

I'm looking forward to the "check out the different boats."

I'll be trying to make some Dutch Oven cake to share on Sat. I'm thinking apple and cherry.

TJM: If you need some thing done on Fri. to help out please let me know.

Randy: I've enjoyed your posts on here and AR; I'd like to meet you. I'll be sure to stick around on Sun. if you're coming.

Good to hear some of you guys will be there early too. I'll be there Thursday evening. Staying in Loop C site# 55 or something, which ever one is in the far south west corner...

I'll be taking the family out on Friday to check out a few spots to demo the boats...Later in the day I'll probably run back out without the family to check out a few of the smaller back channels, it'd sure be handy to have a few extra hands along just in case...;)

I'm game.

I'm game.

I plan on rolling into the camp ground about noon on Friday; could be earlier if needed. Shouldn't take long to set up the little REI tent.

I'd be happy to ride out with you Friday afternoon. Sounds like it could be more that being a passenger ride! Give me a chance to buff out the fingerprints I left last time I was near your boat.

I went up there yesterday and made reservations for spot 46. We will come in Friday by noon and stay till Monday noon. I will be ready to run the river (probably following someone for now) shortly after we get camp set up. Bringing a Tent, the wife and two dogs. Plus the fishing gear. I hope somebody knows where the kings will be, they don't call me Bob the fisher for nothing. I just don't know that river that high up yet. Been fishing the Deshka for years and it kinda been suckin the last couple. bye the way, I brought my new 60/40 sportjon home yesterday, got a lot of jelious neighbors now. A new boat sure can bringem out of their houses. C-Ya on the 27 fellas...."fishon"...

I'll keep an eye out for you...a couple more guys and maybe one more boat and we're set for a good time...:)

Hoping there will be lots of Kids for my boys to play with.

2 boys here...4 and 6 years old...:)

I hope somebody knows where the kings will be, they don't call me Bob the fisher for nothing. I just don't know that river that high up yet. .

I think it might be a bit early for Kings up that high, but I'm the wrong guy to ask, I'm terrible at catching kings...the hooligain should be in thick on the lower river though, I'll probably run the kids down there to catch a few of them during the weekend...

Hi folks - I am from the lower 48 and am planning on being up your way for that weekend. I have a place up on Fish Lakes Creek off the Yetna and just bought a new (well new to me) jet boat and would love to join the fun. I haven't ran the Susitna so I wouldn't be comfortable taking "riders" out unless I had an experienced captain with me. If someone would like to share a camping spot I would be very appreciative. Let me know!
