I'm curious if anyone has the scoop on the gravel/sand quarrying project that has commenced in the middle of Fairbanks' only decent waterfowlery. As I understand it, the entire chunk of land is borough-owned, so I assume it's the borough that contracted out the job. I do hope they pump water back into it before next season because it stinks out there now. Literally, it stinks of rotting vegetation and mud... and the water is gone, which makes it quite useless as a duck hunting spot.
I hunted down by the heavy equipment this morning, mostly wanting to get a better view of the project that had drained my favorite swamp. It's pretty impressive how much earth has been moved out of there.
