Doing a solo run tonight for some weekend shrimping. Plan is to make the 0730 tunnel, stay around Blackstone/Port Wells area, get dialed in on the shrimp, watch DVDs and return Sunday. Brought along all my fishing tackle to go through plus have some other boat projects to keep me busy. If the snow doesn’t stick on the road I’m out of here.

Rain x on all the windows and a full tank of fuel for the Wallas furnace, expect I’ll be running it all weeked again.
This snow stuff is getting old!!!!

Your not the only one camping out in the yard!

This last snow fall is my fault....boat is packed and ready, espar is cooking, gear is on board, guns sighted in, and I uncovered her to put the zodiac on the roof......not too mention I took the plow off the wheeler two days ago!!

7 inches and counting at my house. Going out now to clear enough snow to put another bulb in the bilge since I've dewinterized and its in the 20s.

Ok, but you better not mount those reels on a pole or you'll jinx it all over again.......lol

Just back interesting weekend I'll send some pictures. When you're by yourself it takes twice as long to do everything.

I wasn’t the only hardy Alaskan boater at the 730 tunnel Friday night, there were four of us. Good thing it was high tide because the ramp was covered with snow. I backed the boat down the ramp a bit and hit the brakes, just barely stopped...committed now because there was no traction to pull forward. Put the truck in low range and backed her down in a controlled slide, gaining speed tell the boat hit water…high pucker factor.

The run out was surreal, flat water with a couple inches of slush...looked like ice. Like that all the way up into Blackstone.
Dropped pots then discovered someone had already anchored where I planned so dropped anchor in my alternate… still flat calm.

About 0130 the wind started up, by 0500 it was snotty up and down the bay. Pulled anchor around 0800, too windy to even try pulling the pots so headed for cover in Surprise Cove; spent the day on boat projects.

Headed over toward Decision Point around 1700 to call wife, water was laying down. Managed to pull the pots and enjoy a sunny evening on the hook. Cranked the music up and popped heads, had a great shrimp dinner, watched a movie and hit the rack around 2300.

Sunday was gorgeous but blustery. I had to drag one of my sets into the lee just to get it pulled. Must have been blowing a stead 20-25 with 40+ gusts on the west side of the bay. By late afternoon Sunday the wind was subsiding so pulled the pots for the last time and headed in.

BTW, got blown off the anchor both nights…lousy holding bottom. Only way I could any sleep was set the anchor alarm on my Garmin Montana and take it to bed, sweet unit.
Without a windless it would have been dicey for sure, going out on deck in a blow in the pitch dark would not have been fun.

A great solo experience, and it made me appreciate all the help others provide.

When I get time tonight I’ll post a couple of pictures....
