Anyone here running a sky7400? If so, thoughts, useful accessories? Thinking of upgrading my kifaru longhinter to one of these for my fall sheep trip.

Yes and no. I just purchased the 7400 a few months ago, so no first hand experience with that bag. I have been using both the Solo and Terminus (replaced the Terminus with the Sky) bags for a couple seasons though. The only accessories I have are two large belt pockets and the spotting scope pocket. Oh, I did just recently purchase an Access bag also to use with the Solo to add an additional 900ci. I tried the medium belt pockets but they were just too small for my preference. The large pockets are really nice for accessing things quickly, and are big enough to hold things like a range finder, GPS, gloves, etc. I found that I like to carry my spotter in the pocket with the tripod attached and hanging outside the pocket. I can zip the pocket up around to the point where the spotter attaches to the tripod and get a good seal. By keeping it all attached, it allows me to drop the pack, pull the spotter out and get it set up quickly. I also have SG's rifle carrier, but I still use and like the Kifaru gun bearer more. I've had two Kifaru packs, a KU5200 and a DT1, that I used for a few years but since purchasing the SG, the Kifaru's just stayed at home, so I sold them.

Dayum, you must almost be "pack broke"! I ordered it and several accesories.... Sounds like i could have skipped the medium side belt pouch or got two larges (went with one med and one lg to try them out.).

The med. may work out okay for you, it was just a bit too small for me. If you ended up liking one size over the other, I'm sure Kurt would have no problem switching them out. SG's customer service is second to none.

I went back and forth on whether to get the load bag or not too.

I lost my kifaru gun bearer bottom piece and they had a wait time so i broke out the handy stitcher and made my own. What is the difference between SG and Kif's?

I'm probably going to pick up a SG pack this year as well. Aren't they coming out with a new bag? Haven't looked into it for a few months, but I know they had something in the pipeline.

They're coming out with the Sky Talus 6900. It has exterior pockets built in for spotting scope, etc. It also has water bottle pockets. It was scheduled to be available late February, so should be any day now. I'm planning getting an SG this spring and decided to hold off until the new one was released and get that model. In the 6900 mode with load shelf it supposed to weigh in at about 5#.

The Kifaru is designed to position the rifle under your arm and the SG basically just straps it up to the side of the pack behind your shoulder. They both use the same type of "holster" that the rifle butt sits in and both use the same type of buckle release for the barrel.

I have the load cell and use it, but a drybag of the same size would probably work equally as well. The only difference being that the SG bag allows for the meat to drain/leak blood (it's made to not be water tight) while your packing it out.

Check out the Sky5100, or the Solo bags. My 12 y/o son used the Solo this last season for his goat hunt and it worked out great.

I wouldn't say that it's hard to get off of your pack quickly, but probably not as quickly as you can get to your rifle using the Kifaru. Since the SG uses the same type of release mechanism/buckle, it's just a matter of reaching up, pulling the strap, and your rifle is free. But definitely not as accessible as the Kifaru system.

I also run the AGC bino pack, but I don't have any experience with the chest pack Kifaru makes.

Kifs pack is just a zip bag with handwarmer pocket. It works great for some small stuff and clips to clips on the shoulder straps.

I used the 7400 for a sheep hunt last year. I also have a Barneys pack. I like the SG better than the Barneys for the medium loads under 60 pounds. I think the Barneys pack handles 80-100 pounds better that the SG, but not good enough for me to take the 4 pound weight penalty between the packs. I don't know how the pack would do with over 100 pounds because I can't really carry that load safely, so I don't. I loaded it to about 90 pounds of steel and water a few times and walked around for a while. The pack did better than me.

I bought and used the medium hip belt pockets and wished for at least one large instead. I had way more room that I needed for most all my stuff, so I did not bother with the spotting scope bag. I bought but did not use their game bag (unfortunately).

The pack is legit. It does as advertised. It will carry a heavy load, and is light weight. Just spartan. You just need to see how it fits you.

I rec'd mine. I like it. I wont be able to put a load in it and carry it for about 6 more weeks, but the wife likes it too so that is a big plus that it is so easily adjustable to make it fit her for when she goes backpacking without me. Next time I would have opted for just the large side pockets.

This is the Sky 5100 on Kodiak last October. Here's my take: SG packs (krux frame) are dynamite...for everything 80lbs and under. You get heavier than that and you won't care about the extra frame weight- you'll want your Barney's freighter frame. I love the comfort and functions of SG- their narrow platform makes alder wading almost enjoyable. I feel like I'm a transformer when attaching/reattaching/re-reattaching all the connectors, straps, flaps and lids. The load you see here; minimal camp, skull, cape, bone in buck- +- 80 would carry easier with my Barney's pack. It's wider platform, thicker strapping and capacity makes heavier loads easier on my body. This is my experience, I've hauled several sheep and goats with my Barney's pack. I've yet to test the new SG anywhere other than ADQ. But I certainly plan on it.

Bought my 7400 last year, and I've posted some of my experiences over in the gear section. Great pack. Most comfortable I've had for carrying all loads, and have been close to 100lbs. Load bag is sized just right, and slides inbetween pack and frame nicely. Then it cinches down perfectly with all the pack straps, and I had absolutely no movement of load while packing out my goat. I have one large and one med belt bag, and I can see a person preferring 2 large if you don't have something specific for the med. Spotting scope bag is great. When carrying rifle I put the spotting scope on the opposite side of the pack to offset the rifle's weight. If no rifle, I put it on the back of the pack. If I'm not carrying a spotting scope, I leave the bag on the pack as a convenient external storage since the pack has no outside pockets.

Picked up a Sky 5100 from Kurt a few years ago. Light weight, quality materials and very practical layout. I also picked up a KUIU 7200 and prefer the fit of the SG over the KUIU pack. Have only used the SG on one sheep hunt (nothing but blisters) but the pack worked just as advertised. Works great for moose hunting when put into bivy mode to keep extra gear on hand. Cant even hardly tell I've got a pack on when I'm out looking for moose.
