Anyone been out on the ice lately? Anyone driving vehicles out there? Any snow??

I'm thinking of heading west for a week of camping/fishing before the temps start warming up too much to safely drive out there... might just take the snowmachine and wall tent on the ice...

I was out on Tustumena a few weeks ago. From the winter trail area there is a very nasty pressure ridge only 100' out or less. I wasn't crazy enough to try to cross it. I did ride parelell to it up as far as nurses cabin. trail lacked good snow but was ridable with caution.
Some of the springs left open holes of water and lots of exposed rocks.
I have never rode to the lake from the river side.
If you go be careful as we don't need anymore snowmachines in either one of these lakes this season. I believe each lake has had at least one machine go through this year.
Good luck and be safe.

There is a winter trail to Tustumena on the south side of the river that can be accessed from Centennial Trail. Real rough right now but might make it in, lots of overflow in the muskeg areas.

There is another very popular trail that follows the horse trail part of the way and crosses Raven lake .
You can access it from the Decanter Bar in Kasilof or the large roadside pullout between Soldotna and Kasilof. I usually access it from my dads house as it is a shortcut but I have to cross private land from there to reach the trail.
This trail takes you right to the side of the lake just a couple of miles west of nurses cabin.
