Most of you over reacted, I don't care about your alcoholic hooker ex wife drinking 15 natty ice in the ICU after rolling a trailer park transam with a meth addict in the passenger seat with a hipoint. What this post is about is responsible people that have an occasional drink or two. The negative comments about my "rip snortin loads" again are unwarranted, you don't know what loads I'm using with what cases etc. How many of you actually live in Alaska??
sounds like alot of lower 48/California type of thinking.....
Lighten up, live a little, laugh a little.

Nobody said their ex was a hooker. I have lived in Alaska 23 years. I live in Anchorage and have a cabin on 240 acres in the MatSu. What that has to do with your comment I don’t know. Responsible people don’t drink when handling guns. The law stands behind that as well. Drinking to calm your nerves means 2 things, either you are going through delirium tremors from lack of alcohol, or you are full of shit. My comment about your ‘ripsnorting loads’ was due to you boasting of destroying 629’s with them.
i don’t expect to change anyone’s mind as most are set in their ways. We see things very differently and I won’t waste any more space commenting about it. We can agree to disagree.

one big problem with drinking and shooting is knowing someone's level of impairment and knowing their alcohol tolerance.
How do other users of the gun range know how many you've had and/or how many beers it takes before you have impaired judgement?
If we allow drinking at the range we all know that there are some shooters who will take it to far and then have a firearms accident or incident. That's just human nature! Odds are there will always be one or two people who take it to far.
So are we going to require a breathalyzer before stepping up to the firing line each time for all users? That seems a bit much for me.
IMHO it is much easier to not allow any alcohol on the range then to guess as to who's had too many and who is still ok to shoot!
BTW am I the only one who finds it kind of funny when someone admits that they started drinking at the age of 13 yet claims they are responsible with alcohol and don't have a drinking problem?

And now for another aspect of it.
What size beers are we talking about? Beers come on a wide range of sizes from a 1 oz sampler cup you get at the microbrewery to a 32 oz bottle.
And what's the alcohol content of these beers? A couple 3-2 beers may not be too bad for the average drinker, but I've known guys who's home brew beers were as high as 8% ABV or maybe even higher.
And that's if they're just plain beers with no added hidden alcohol that may be mixed in with it.
There's just some things that we shouldn't do while we're under the influence of alcohol in any amount.
There's just too many variables in it.
Some of those things include driving motor vehicles, operating heavy equipment, and shooting firearms!

It's funny how much you all over-react, I keep getting accused of trolling. I think you old farts WANT to get trolled and stir the pot. You have spent too many years associating any alcohol use with alcoholism. In 1921 Ben Comfort won the Wimbledon cup with a 300h&h and drank beer out of the cup!! Too much California creeping in this forum, maybe a little Oregon hipster too. You all have lost sight of freedom, Alaska and what it stands for. Go back down to L.A. !!!

Wasn't born here. But been here since '69. I get out and have fun. Just not with alcohol. Not necessary. I seem to do fine without it. You want a drink? Go ahead. I'll just be somewhere else. Safer for me that way.

Too many accidents happen when people are sober no reason to add alcohol into the mix whether it's a single beer in camp during lunch before an afternoon hunt or one at home before heading out to the range.
I don't care if you weigh 300 pounds it hase been proven that your reflex time and judgement is affected by just one beer.

I agree with you 100%, though I didn't move here until 97.
I've never needed alcohol to have a good time and I have plenty of fun adventures without it.

People used to have an average life span of 45 too. It's for that reason and others that we live longer now.. Things change for a reason. Nobody drinks and shoots around me if I'm in control like one of my hunting trips. If I'm not in control, I leave.

I know a guy that swore he was smarter when he was stoned. Experience proved otherwise. I could share lots of humorous stories about the really 'smart' things he did while toking on a number, including running over himself while changing a u-joint in his pickup while parked on a hill. Yeah, a real genius when he was stoned.

Was wondering when you would do that.

Yea when the weather is nice I spend as much time out-of-doors doing projects. Bear stand was a bust this year. Boating/fishing/shrimping/camping/hunting are going to be a minimal activities with fuel prices.

Go back down to L.A. !!!

Only time I've been in LA was passing through LAX to go to Albuquerque NM. Lived at Fort Irwin, outside of Barstow in the Mojave desert back in '68 for about a year. Great place for a kid. Tarantulas, snakes, lizards and desert tortoises in abundance. Plus the desert was littered with cast off military equipment. Times were different then.

Just when I thought American's learned a lesson about authoritarianism, I come here after a year and same old same old keyboard warriors telling other how to live.

Remind me when you'll be in the woods. It's good that people speak up, we all live longer that way.

It seems like you anticipated the response you got, and wrote what you did for just such a response. Seems silly to complain about it.
