I would take a stock rifle and a good hunter over a 4k gun and hunter with so so skils. Its not the gun so much as the guy shooting it. One of the best deer hunters i ever met shot a lever .35 Rem. with iron sights. He did nothing but still hunt and shot some truly outstanding bucks....
You could drive from the Valley to A-town in a $500 junk truck or a nice new truck.....the outcome will be the same too!.....I'm driving the nicer truck!........
I see nothing wrong with having nice stuff!.......
Now Chisana, Those are beauties too, both custom stocks by Jerry Fisher you say?
That's the kind of stuff that really gets me thinking. Love that Wood
What are you calling "goofy colors".....laffin'.......it's like any thing else. Ether like it or ya don't!.....my wife likes all the colored McMillans we have...but she hates the orange flame stock!......think I'm going to order a another one!...grin
I have one simple rule....I use what I like, you use what you like!.......
And yes those are target turrets, and yes I do dial dope and yes I have made some very, very long shots.......and NO I do not want to talk abut it....cause it is way over a lot of folks head! IMHO....
Please do not assume that because I have custom guns and "goofy colored stocks that I have no hunting skills!
ApineEarl,
I'm not upset at all if someone disagrees with my gun, stock color, gun caliber, choices etc!......It's all good.......I just get rubbed wrong when folks start judging others by the stuff that they use/like!
Saying I feel fabulous walking thru the woods with my orange stock!... is IMO derogatory or just being a smart ***! If you would have looked closer you will see that it is a heavy barreled "varmint" rifle, I use it for long range varmint shooting and I don't pack it thru the woods!
I didn't say it was over your head!....say it was over "some folks' head....left that opened ended for ya!
I shot an antelope back in 1982 in Idaho at 942 yds with a 338-378 wildcat, one shot clean kill, using an old military range finder!....I've been shooting long range since then, I might know a little about it!......and this is the last I will talk about it!...... you do what you do... I will do what I do!
I bought the scope used for $200 and had the turret put on for $45....the other 6x on the 280AI I bought for $250 from a friend! Didn’t say what it would cost, just what I have into them!
If that’s you in your avatar picture……some things just make since!
You and I are done talking!
A response both you and I know isn't truly soliciting a positive reply....So, pretty please, with sugar on top, can you tell me what kind (ie. make, model etc) of super duper nice scope do you have on top of the photo of the nicest rifle ever made?
kgpcr... I'm not following your logic. Lot of dead sheep pictures in this thread as well as nice rifles so apparently the skills are there too. Of course its about hunting skill- the kewl rifle is just a toy to play with between hunting seasons.
I've shot critters with a 10lb .303 Brit worth about $100 and a .300WSM worth something like $2500. Outcome was the same but I don't think I'll ever go back to the .303 if I can help it...LOL.
A response both you and I know isn't truly soliciting a positive reply....
A little tact goes a long way sometimes...

Yeah and maybe other people hunt a little different than you do. You do any solo sheep hunts? I tend to count ozs. not pounds. So do most serious sheep hunters I know. That Ruger with rubber slug stock will be more like 3lbs heavier than what I use. And yes, I've owned 2 Ruger .375 Alaskans....I will be taking Ruger Alaskan .375ruger. One rifle is enough for me. Sure might be a pound heavier, but just a pound and most people could stand to loose some weight, pack better gear, and just deal with it. Why buy a gun in a lesser caliber just to save some weight? Well one reason is I guess mind set. If they have lighter gun then they don't have to train as much, smaller caiber will be faster so can shoot further instead of being a better hunter and getting closer for a better shot. Mind set all it is.
