Nothing special, but this little shortcut saved us about 15 minutes….it was fun, but I decided to go the long way on the way back…

Keep in mind that the wide angle on the camera really distorts the picture, the slough isn’t nearly as wide as it appears, I could nearly spit across most of the length of the slough, I don’t think it got any deeper than a couple feet either, a lot of it was under a foot….the shallow sloping banks and muddy bottom had me a little concerned but since we had 6 guys in the boat I figured that if we did get stuck we’d have plenty of help to push…

Looks fun indeed T, skinnys where the fun runnin' begins. Our water isn't as skinny as it could be but there's always some to be had, you just gotta get creative and run where you never dared to go before. Lotsa rain this summer so far, rivers are pretty full in places.

That clip really shows what an excellent driver can do; add one driver + one Wooldridge, mix in some water, and you have another great video. thx for sharing

Nice video, thanks for sharing.

It sure looks like a gopro video... the fish eye effect gives it away. I just got one a month ago... cool new toy.

Looks like the shortcut to Flathorn Lake.

You are correct, sorry, I should have mentioned that :)

Toshiro,

What camera are you using to shoot your vids, GoPro?

Sam

I use a Canon HFS20, ContourHD, and a GoPro....I prefer them in that order....JR2 nailed it, that particular little clip was captured with the GoPro....:)

How long does it take to get to Flathorn from the landing?

it depends...
if you drive quickly and take the shortcut you can do it in 50min,
if you drive mellow and skip the shortcut it could take as long as 80 minutes....
I think 1hour and 5minutes is a pretty good average....
plan a little bit longer for the return trip ....

Cool video. I'm already missing the rivers up there. There is way too much water around here for running skinny. Takes all the fun out of things.

"It's only a shortcut if we don't get stuck!"Classic.
Lol...I never went that way before so I wasn't sure if we'd make it...ended up being a nice time saver, but if we did stick it, it would have been a long day :)

Only downside to the GoPros is bad audio. Man, the old XL was flyin, initially I thought the footage was sped up a tad. Were you runnning WOT most of that run?

I had the waterproof case on it. It does come with an eclosure with an open back to capture better sound but I have yet to try it, but yes, the sound is terrible. For my application I really dislike how wide the angle is at 175 deg, but the windshield mount is handy so I guess wide angle footage is better than no footage :).

I was running pretty much WOT the entire time, but one side effect of the wide angle is it makes it appear as if I am going faster than I really am. I did not speed up the footage at all as you can tell by listening to the voices, but the sound is so muffled you'll have to turn up the volume quite a bit.

I prefer the CountourHD over the GoPro for my application. Primarily because the angle isn't as wide at 135 deg (adjustable down to 111 deg). The picture is still annoyingly distorted making the stream appear much wider than it really is, but unless I can get someone to hold onto a real video camera while I drive it is about as good as I can get until I can figure out how to mount a real camera somehow.
