Scott Trim Nozzle????

Thinking about installing a Scott Trim Nozzle on an inboard 200 hp Mercury Sport Jet and I was hoping someone had experience running one. Is it worth the expense ($2k + install):question: It will be installed on a 23' foot aluminum Wooldridge Alaskan XL. Thanks for any information.

I love mine. If you run in silt you will also save money in the long run not having to change out the stock plastic bushings in the SJ nozzle. Last year the only place I had room to put a 60" bull head was in the bow. The first corner I took the boat just plowed in. I trimmed her up and she planed like it was empty again. I know, I could have done a better weight and balance but It was already dark and the list goes on. With the 70"er's your gonna haul, i would recommend one lol. Other than the price the biggest draw back if reverse. You just need to have it trimmed all up to have reverse and train anyone else that might drive your boat before they ram anything lol. You might also contact http://exwelding.ca/ He was working on a new diverter for the SJ that was supposed to be cheaper than the Scott.

I installed one on my Dads boat last year for the annual trip up the hual road to run the Ivashak and the Sag. Cut my fuel down from 5 gals to 3.75-4 gals hour. I went home with spare fuel. Drop 550- 600 rpms running the rivers and took bounce out. Helped on steering really easy or "really hard if trimmed wrong Anyway it worked for the little 13ft'er

I always loved watching that little boat run the Ivashak. It was made for that river.

Well I finally had a bad experience with mine after 4 years of running it. After jumping a gravel bar I quickly trimmed down to get right back on step. After pumping gravel though it I got a rock lodged in the lower lip inside the nozzle. The rock broke the lip on the inner nozzle and the hydraulics sheered off the bottom hem joint bolt which resulted in loosing the whole nozzle off the jet.
That being said I still got a new one and am replacing it. The new ones have a little different design than the ones and are much beefier. The lesson I learned is to carry the stock nozzle so you’re not stuck up the creek with out a nozzle.

I looked at the set up and though, what would I need if the cylinder failed. Then thought about the rocks, Just like what you described. So i also carry the stock nozzle assy. Good point to bring up.

I know mines not a SportJet, but I built a bash plate to keep the rocks out. You can see it in the pic if you look close. It will keep the rocks out of the trim ring. Im not sure a rock could get lodged in the inner part of the nozzle on mine, maybe the new ones are a little tighter tolerances????
