Satelite phone rental in Anchorage

Going to Kotz Sept '07 and was wondering what the best place to rent an Iridium sat. phone was in Anchorage. That is if they are open on Sunday as that will be the day we have. What about mail order?? How long in adsvance do I have to reserve one?

Winter rate is $75/week. Get a phone, 2 batteries and a carry case. They are only open M-F but they have a drop box for returning the phone. They are pretty flexible on the timing as well. Both times I have used them, I needed the phone for a Sunday through Saturday week long hunt. I pick up the phone Friday and drop off the following Saturday or Sunday, but they only charge me for the week not 9 days. They are located next to Iliama Air off the airport frontage road.

My bad - looked at your timing. Their winter rates start in Oct. The prime season rate is $100/wk. I looked at the internet rental when I first shopped services, they advertise as low $35/wk, but by the time you get an extra battery, and a case and have it delivered its closer to $100/wk.

Unfortunately we will be arriving in Anchorage from Wisconsin late Saturday night and leaving for Kotz on the early flight on Monday so I need to pick up a phone on Sunday or have it shipped to me ahead of time.

Check out The satellite phone store. They rent for $35.00 per week with spare battery and case. I used them this fall for a Moose hunt. They ship anywhere on the excact date you need the phone and even give you a couple of days for free to work out the phone and ship it back. Easy way to get a phone and easy to deal with.

Surveyors Exchange in Anchorage. You could reserve one in advance, then you would have to arrange for someone to pick up for you I believe. I don't know if they're open on weekends. I doubt it.

I rented from Surv. Exch. in Sept of this year. $75 per week and they Goldstreaked it to me. (ANC-->ENA)

I'd bet they would deliver the phone to your hotel for you to pickup on arrival. Great folks to work with. Not open weekends.

Bruce - I will be in Kotz in Sept. '07 myself. I checked with Surveyor's Exchange earlier this year and they told me it would be no problem at all for them to ship a phone to me prior to the hunt. And, as others have mentioned, I'd be willing to bet they would make arrangements to have it waiting for you at your hotel upon arrival. We will also be arriving late on a Friday night and leaving on the 6am Kotz flight so we have to get our phone ahead of time.

Our company works with Surveyor's Exchange every year for Iditarod communications and they've always been very helpful.

I rented mine from http://www.phonehome.tv He was very flexible and delivered the phone to me in the parking lot of Sportsman's Wharehouse. I dropped it off at his house late on a Friday night.
