Mazda makes that rotory engine that runs hot, at 9,000+ rpm's, has anyone ever heard of these put into a boat? In the 80's, Mazda was criticized for putting these engines in their vehicles because the 2 cylinder rotory engines performed like a sport V8. I would imagine having one of these engines in a boat would be awesome.

A rotary engine does not have any cylinders :) it has a cumbustion chamber on the side of the housing formed when the triangular rotor moves against it.

troopers

troopers

a birdie told me that the troopers have one in a airboat hull.....

i cant confirm this first hand...but that is what i hear

edit:

"he" also tells me its almost as fast as the airboat hull powered by a 454.....but better on gas.

i would think they lack the torque to produce good results in a larger boat, and definately lacking torque for any type of hauling cargo/dead animals....

Just over ten years ago there was a guy who put a rotary engine in his airboat. They haulted the attempt because they could not keep it from overheating.

The rotary exhaust temps are excessive, and is near imposable to quite it down in short amount of exhaust pipe you would be able to run. That sucker will make you deaf in short order.....

Ah, just wear ear plugs, that marine rotary engine looks pretty sick! Maybe someday they will get it right.
