Ok here is my problem, well not really a problem I'm just picky. I got a nice Ruger no 1B off a guy and it was originally a 7 rem mag that has been rechambered to 7 stw. The original caliber is still marked on the barrel but after it is a crude and not good looking STW stamped that looks like my 2 year old did it. Anyhow does anybody in town have a way to say mill off the caliber and then remark to say 7 STW or 7MM STW? I know guys online have filed or peened the stamps or put XXX over the old chambering but since this gun looks nice and is a good shooter I prefer it to not have that eye sore. I have almost nothing in it so I'm OK with giving up say $100 or so to have it fixed. I will prob just hit it with some brownells cold blue to get it close to matching but I think it would look better than it does now with semi doubled stamps on it.

I can do that and I’m sure Kid at Wild West could do a fine job too.

Problem could be the barrel contour and size of the poor alterations, it could be an issue milling that off all pretty. My stamping would be hand stamped one letter/number at a time but I (like most gunsmiths) spend the time to lay it out so they are in line, not leaning, and well spaced.

If you want fancy you could have a smith just remove it then take it to Bovey trophy and have it engraved on all pretty like.

Ok so would you be able to remove the old stamping or just remarking it? How would be the best way to go about it. I know since its a 1B it has a heavier barrel than the newer Rugers have.

Hard to say exactly what the best way is on your gun without seeing it but usually I mill the old off with the end of an end mill a little bigger around than my stamps are tall. This leaves a sort of flat bottomed shallow window where the old was and I stamp the new in the window. So your new stamp sits in a little recessed window with rounded ends where the old stamping was.

Andy,

Thanks for the info on that. This is exactly what I want to do with it if the stamping a aren't too deep already to do it. I know you would need to look it over to see if its doable. Now can I ask what this will cost me? You can PM if you don't like prices being out in the open forum. Thanks again.
