I have just picked up a new Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 358 winchester and am looking for some reloading information with 200 grain bullets mainly remington corelokts, hornady interlocks and speer hot core bullets meanest game down here is wild hogs and I've found these bullets work fine here for deer and hogs.Murphy am also having trouble finding new brass any sources would be greatly appreciated.Fortunately I picked up 100 pieces a couple of years ago so I have enough to start but would like about 200 more if I can find them. Any help you all can give me will be much appreciated...Thanks Ronnie

Lots of 358 Winny brass in my house. IMHO you would be better off loading the 225 Nosler Partition in that little baby. That is the only jacketed bullet I have used in mine. I also run a 210 grain hard cast bullet with a gas check. AA2015 or RL15 may be your powder of choice. I have used both H322 and H335 but since switched to AA2015.

Allen have you tried the Kodiak 225 grain bonded bullets. They seem to do well at the more moderate velocities..and are a touch shorter for more powder room...

If you have any problems, find some Lake City 7.62 National Match brass, clean and polish it then size it up to .358. It all weighs the same and is perfect for "J" boolits or cast. It will all weigh within .010 of each other and give great results over the board for accuracy. Very, very, reliable and will last for at least 10 reloadings. It works for me and my Ruger 77/358. Happy shootin'

Thanks Jebb I do have plenty of lake city brass as well as lots of federal match and others I can make into 358 if I need to was mainly looking for winchester brass to have the correct headstamp but may have to go the other way every supplier I have tried is out and don't know when they will have anymore this is one of those cases where winchester makes a run every so often and it gets snapped up quick. I have 100 cases plenty good to start but would like to have 200 more which should last me as I would only use this rifle as a hunting rifle will have a load for deer and such and one with a barnes x or nosler partition for larger stuff....Thanks again Ronnie

BTW-
I make my own brass from virgin 308 brass, as previously suggested. As a matter of course I run the brass up over the expander ball in my 338WM die as a half-step before running it into the 358 sizing die. If for some reason your cases hang up on the expander ball in your 358 dies (resulting in crushed cases or damage to case mouths) try a similar half step or install a tapered expander ball.

A couple of more quick points. As for head stamps and keeping reformed cartridges sorted from unaltered, I always swipe the heads on all my reformed cases with a red Sharpie pen so the ink gets down in the stamps. It wears off the face, but any time I see red lettering, I look closer.
If you are into casting, check out the RCBC 200gr FNGC. It's a terrific bullet in the 358, as well as in the 35 Rem and the 357 Herret. I generally cast mine from wheelweights for simplicity, but with the GC they do fine at the 1500fps or so I load mine. It's a heck of a plinking/target bullet and I always keep some in my pocket for small game. The 358 is my carry gun, and it's really nice to have full snort loads in the mag along with some plinkers in your pocket. Start shooting cast, and you're going to get a lot more use out of it simply because you can't stand to leave it home.
