Protecting windows when towing boats

I've seen quite a bit of cardboard, and custom covers on boats when towing. What else are guys using and how do you secure the non-custom covers to the windows?

A foam camping pad and bungie cords.
That's what my dad uses and it's a 6-hour drive to the cabin from Kasilof.
