Hello all! I'm a physician who goes over to Prince of Wales Island once a month (from Ketchikan) as part of a traveling clinic. I'm going to be there the weekend of 08/12/23 and I arranged to stay the entire weekend (instead of just the Friday before seeing patients). I was hoping to do some fishing for Cohos, but after doing some research like it's going to be too early in the year. I think I messed up. Will there be Coho's that time of year? What location would be my best chance that time of year? I was thinking of spending $75 to pay the fees to fish the Klawock River since I don't want to have to drive an hour out of town from Craig (where I will be staying) but I don't want to waste $75 if there's no Cohos that time of year. Does anyone have experience with this? Much thanks.

It’s early for cohos on the Klawock. There used to be a really early run up by Whale Pass but I don’t think that hatchery is still open. Bring your boat! You won’t have to run out too far to find some fish.
