Well after almost a year of deliberation over whether or not I wanted one of these I finally broke down and bit the bullet.. This is the coated version of the Alaskan, wearing a McMillan stock , Warne QD's and a Leupie 2.5-8x36. The coating is cool, and its some kind of baked on finish. The black really amplifies the white bead on teh front sight when you throw it up. Shoots less than 1" MOA with factory 270 grainers, which is good since I dont reload. Recoil is stiff but plenty tolerable, if you can shoot a 338 WM well the 375 Ruger will not be a problem. As you see it, it weighs 8 lbs minus bullets and a sling. This will replace my 338WM in my medium bore department.

Jealous??? Yes I am!!! Looks sweet. My buddy bought one a year ago and I have been coaxing them to get the Warne QD rings. Seems to make sense to me. Man that is one pretty setup. I realize it most it is, but I never considered the .375 a medium bore

Medium bore, large bore, I know one thing ....275 grains @ 2700 fps will knock the snot off a lot of stuff, and in a compact package is all the better!...grin

It looks nice with the new stock on it. I handled a few of these when I was out rifle shopping. I never could get over the look and feel of the original stock. I just didnt like it.

Congrats, I hope you get to KO a few critters with it.

That is one real fine looking and well thought out rig. I know it will serve you well. Might expensive to feed, are you going to reload for it in the future????

Maybe one day when reloading supplies become readily available again. I havent seen a lb of Hogdon or Alliant powder anywhere here in Fairbanks since before Bama got elected. I am really happy with the way this rifle turned out. Keep in mind, I was able to swap the QD's , scope and stock directly off of my 338WM onto this 375 so it was a quickly put together package (nice thing about Rugers ), the fact that it shoots as well as it does is just a bene to me. I may have the trigger worked at some point as I have with every Ruger I have ever owned, but the trigger on this rifle is better than any other Ruger I've had. It will kill some bears in the next month or so, that I can assure you.

Cub, are you saying you took the QD mounts off your .338 and slapped it on your new 375 and put the scope on the mounts and you were relatively close even after changing rifles??? If so that is impressive to say the least. I put some Warne QD mounts on my Marlin GG and am impressed to see it still cloverleaf at 100 yds with a 16" barrel even after I take the scope on and off a couple times. Each time its still 2" high at 100 yds which is right where I want it.

Maybe this post here will be enough to get my buddy to buy into the QD ring setup since he has sights as well, might as well have the option to use them easily.

No Lanche, I still had to sight the gun in, just didn't have to spend $70 or so dollars on the ideal mounts for this rifle, already having em on another Ruger set up.

Yeah that is nice a feature of having multiple rifle by the same rifle maker, everything is interchangable.

Did you buy the gun new and add the stock yourself? I ask because most of the factory black coated ones I have seen still had a silver bolt and handle.

So nice I bought one a couple years ago. I was wondering how much weight you lost by switching stocks, and also about how much did that stock cost. Mine is the silver version and wears a 1.5-5x20 Leupold, nice shooting rifles for sure

I havent weighed both of them but, I am guessing that the Hogue was 10-14 oz heavier than the McMillan. I have had this stock for 2-3 years, paid like $400 for it. You can custom order any color , type of recoil pad, LOP, sling stud color, etc. They have a about a 20 week delivery time.

I weighed my Hogue a few weeks ago. It's 33 ounces, 2 pounds 1 ounce. That is a nice looking set up you have, good hunting...

I think that compilation is about the only way to go with a medium to large bore in AK. Shorter for easier carry in the brush, iron sites and quick detach rings....you will never find yourself carrying a club with that ever ready rig. I'm a lefty and so I had to modify a savage in 338 to get the same specs of a rig (cut and crown, sights added) but couldn't be happier. A buddy of mine took a moose with his 375 ruger a few years ago....let's just say it was effective.

I've also had great success with the quick detach rings....the scope comes off a few times a season for close work, night work, packing work etc. and at first I always took a few to make sure I was close...but have never had an issue yet...at least not one that I could detect in my shooting ability.
