My hunting partner connected on his first black bear on Saturday! We hiked into my bait stand to find that it had been ravaged. I check the game cam and found that it was one bear that sat there and ate about 45 gallons of sugary popcorn for 3 days straight. The bear had been there about an hour before we showed up, so we sat in our stands for a few hours. Nothing came in.

There is a nearby slide that I have been seeing bears on, so I wanted to go check that out rather than sit in a stand over no more bait. So, he followed some bear tracks away from the stand the opposite direction, while I went to go glass the slide. I spotted a nice big boar that I watched for a while to get a feel for where he was going. As I had him in my bino's and planning my stalk to go get him, I heard a gunshot up the valley about a 1/4 mile or so. I had to pass on my bear this time to go help out my bud.

Anyways he saw the bear that was circling back in towards our station and double lunged it at about 30 yards with his .300 winnie. It ran about 50 ft and dropped. It turned out to be about a 5 1/2 ft. boar. It was great to see how amped up he was when I walked up to help. What a great time!
Thanks to everyone for all the tips!

Nice story

Nice story

You sound like me. If things are not happening I like to go walking. Pretty darn neat that you found multiple bears off of the site. Nice photos, thanks for sharing,

Congratulations again!

Thanks everyone. He sure is a tasty one too! We made a bunch of breakfast sausage, italian sausage and burger last night.
Don't be an idiot like me and go and cut your thumb washing your knives and get 5 stiches. Its not slowing me down though, going out on Saturday to see if I can connect. Hopefully be postin more pics.
Good luck and be safe out there! (especially with the blades)

Hope it doesnt hurt that trigger squeeze! Sucks you got stitches, but at least you got them for a good reason. Grats on a nice first bear.
