I'll be handloading some 300 WSM. In the past I've always used partitions and believe in them. I like the Accubond because of it's boat tail construction. My concern is that it might expand too much, making larger exit wounds, bloodshoting any meat it goes through. I've read the reviews but does anyone have any first hand experience with alaskan game.

Partition vs. Accubond

Partition vs. Accubond

I loaded up some rounds form buddy's .325 WSM using identical powders and charges and the same primers with both the Partitions and Accubonds (200 grain) and found that the Partitions shot a tighter group than the Accubonds. Not enough to really matter when you are out hunting, but that is what we found. He hasn't killed anything with it yet, so I cannot give you any feedback on wound channel, etc.

I'm no expert but here's my experience this year. My Kimber 325 shoots the factory Win 200 grain Accubonds sub moa at 100yds. I shot a sheep at about 400yds, uphill hit him a little low, upperleg, through the brisket, out the far shoulder. I think the bullet tumbled up cuz it exited kind of high compared to where it entered the brisket. Did some major damage but not sure it was excessive considering. My buddy used my gun also to shoot his ram at about 200yds. Poked a nice little hole right through him. Broke a rib going in and out. A few weeks later I shot a bull moose at about 350 yds. Hit him in the hump, broke his spine and recovered the bullet under the hide. Lost a little meat to bloodshot, to be expected but nothing that made me freak out when I skinned him. Here's the bullet I recovered from the bull.

I like the partitions as well. I do believe however that they may not perform as well as some of the bullets that are designed specifically for very high velocity cartridges, at least not at high velocities.

Is bloodshoting a word

My experience with the barnes bullet is that it expands early doing lots of damage. Good for a bear but not for edible game. This is from my 300 WSM which at 300yds is still is going 2400fps. Compared to a 30-06 which at 300yds is going 2100fps. I wonder if the 300fps is enough to make a difference in bullet expansion.

eatwildgame-thanks for the grammer correction but I like the sound of bloodshoting.

I like both. I've only recovered two Accubonds. One from an 06 the other from a 338. Both shot animals at 300+ yards and shot front to back. Both penetrated about 4 feet of caribou. Both measured 0.6X0.65 inch with about 80 percent retention. All the others I have fired have gone completely through the animals. Jim

Seems everything I hit with my .270win has meat damage...if I hit it in the meat. I usually go for a lung/heart shot unless the deer is on a knob and I need him to drop and not move, then its a neck shot now that is always a bummer cause the neck is good roast. whatever bullet I use and it hits meat it does damage, but like one of the guys signtures, says "use not what you need to hunt but use what might be hunting you" something like that. I like a bullet to hold together, 2 holes bleed better than one?
