Does anyone know if the strip at Painter Creek is still in use? The one West of Mother Goose Lake in the mountains. Have not been in there since Alaska Air was flying in C-130's to an oil camp. I think there might be a lodge there now and I would like to know for certain as I would like to go for a visit. Also, a friend wants to know if anyone with a transport liciense would fly him out hunting next year out of Pilot Point or King Salmon on a per hour charge. I think where he wants to go will take a 185 on floats but he may need a Cub to get into some lakes.

Yes, the lodge at Painter Creek is open and operational. Fishing guests now cough up about $4500 seven days of excelent fishing. Since former partner Joe Maxey died in one of their C-180s, they no longer do any flyout fishing.

The lodge doesn't care too much for drop-in guests, since they usually are booked full for a year or two in advance. Bookings are 80% to 85% repeat clients.

For POSSIBLE advance permission, you can contact Jon Kent, new lodge owner.

For flyout hunting in that area, try Branch River Flying Service (I think it is!) at King Salmon, Alalska. They usually use C-206s and DH-2 Beavers on floats. To be sure of the flying service, try contacting Tony Starkie at Alagnak Lodge on the Alagnak River (alaknaklodge.com).

Best of luck,
