I have a yamaha f105 jet motor on one of my sleds, I was greasing the pump and I saw water coming out of the bearing seals. How do I get the shaft and bearing carrier out? I took off the 4 bolts but didnt want to try and pound it out in case I missed anything.

I got the carrier out, it was hung up pretty good. Sticker shock though when I called around for prices on having the two bearings and seals replaced, 55 each for the bearings and 25 for the seals plus 1.5 hours of work = 4-500, does that sound about right?

If you do plan to assemble everything back together yourself, make sure you put some anti seize compound on the bolts, shaft and outer casing of the bearings, so it'll make it easier when you take it apart next time.

I plan to use neversieze, this is my first time digging into the bearings. Does 350-400 sound right to replace the two bearings and seals when the carrier is already out of the jet unit? That was what I was quoted from the boat shop in fairbanks, but I could send it to a dealer in Anc if I find lower rates.

Sounds about right.

Yikes, 1.5 hours just to replace the bearings and seals sounds like that includes a couple of coffee breaks. If that was for the removal of the shaft from the jet housing, press work and a reinstall into the housing but not back onto the motor, sounds more like it. By the time you hand them the shaft ready to press apart, all the really tough stuff is done IMO. Are those bearing and seal prices from the BS as well or did you quote them from anywhere else like US bearing? If you buy them from elsewhere they may come as a completely sealed bearing that may need to have one seal removed so you can grease them. Just some ways to keep your jetboating costs down from an old knucklehead that had to do the same thing a while back when I still had an outboard jet. Did it all for under 200 bucks. As far as anti seize goes, I've found Loctite Marine Anti- seize to be the absolute ticket. We tried them all on our Pratt & Whitney 2800 engine exhaust systems and spark plugs and whatever problems we had just went away with that stuff. It is non metallic, non conductive, non-corrosive, protects to a higher temp and keeps stainless-on-stainless from galling and locking up. Good stuff.

Didn't shop around too much out of state for bearings. Are you wrenching on dc-6's down in fairbanks?
