I got permission from the wife to invest in a pair of binoculars. I have used a pair of Nikons for many years but they are over twenty years old, and i have heard that glass has improved greatly with the Leica and sworvoski. I do know i will pay over 1500 for a good pair. I am just trying to find opinions other then price on the top brands. I do notice that Sworovski has two tier in the ten by 32 catagory any one know what the largest differance is other then the two hundred dollars? Ant information welcome. Thanks Chef Viktor

The advantage of the big name optics isn't noticed until you've spent a few hours behind your binoculars. I've had the opportunity to use Zeiss, Swarovski, and Leica. All were equal optically as far as I was concerned. What I noticed was that I prefer the fit and feel of Swarovski. That's hard to say since I have a pair of Zeiss 14x40s that my wife gave me several years ago. Although I prefer the Swarovskis, I don't prefer them enough to justify replacing my Zeiss glasses.

Enjoy the search!

Chef, go down to a place like Sportsmans Warehouse and play with all three, thats what I did and I ended up buying the Minox HG's from Doug @ Cameraland instead. Couldn't justify the extra $800.

I would look at Nikon LXL's from Doug also, have a pair of 8x32's and are excellent. Also have a pair of Leica 10x42 BN's and prefer the Nikons but if you are gonna have one pair buy the 42's.Minox HG's are also verry good and at the 600 dollar range also, and you could get a good spotting scope too.My 2cents.Coues

Choosing a top end binocular and asking which is better is like asking... Is Hagen Daz better than Ben & Jerry's? It is a personal decision between optics that quite frankly are higher quality than the eyes that are looking thru them. It comes down to....
Which feels better in your hands?
Which is more comfortable to your face & eyes?
Which brands color tone is most pleasing to you?
Which feels best to you?

Please feel free to give me a call to discuss the different options in the size that you are looking for.

I was in the same situation last year, and narrowed the field to the Swaro EL's and the Leica Ultravid, both in 10x42. I went with the Leica's because of the eye cups; they just felt better. Going outside the store and looking through both sets, back and forth, there was no difference. I had started my search looking for bino's in a lower price range, but after looking through these, I was spoiled. Go to a store where you can look at all the different models, and go with what you feel is best.
