This really blows my mind, no understanding about open sights here in the south BC area with gun smiths. I have a stainless Rem 338 mag and I want to put open sights on it, Like the rifle and when your scope fogs up it junk so you take it off and the hunt goes on. So I phoned weber and markin in Kelowna BC and said I want you to put sights on it. Well these Guys could not even rap their minds around this thought! They were just out to lunch about it, So I phoned Pro-Tech Guns in Penticton BC and even He was a little set back on this but at least he was willing to work on it and said he wil look into some buck horn sights. OK whats the best open basic sights that can be put on a Rem 700, your thoughts.

Hunt of a lifetime, your scope fails, and you have no sights, what are you going to do? I'm a firm believer in having a backup plan. Especially sights. My two AR's have red-dot scopes with crosshairs that are still visible even if the battery fails. Even so, they both have battlefield open sights just in case of scope failure. The iron sights were sighted in before scope mounting so just a matter of removing the scope if one fails.
I'd find a good gunsmith down there if i could.

Hey Guy's, it's not a "Peep", it's a "Ghost-Ring", and if you don't know the difference, look it up, or Google it.....
and as for how it shoots when I pull the Scope off, currently, it's sighted in for 50-75 yards +/- on a 6-8" sight area,
as this is my Sheep Rifle, and when walking/hiking, the Scope is in my pack, the Scope goes back on in about 2-3min's, once I get my pack-off, and holds it's previous set point of 3" high 100yds, that Target that I posted above was when I was checking my grouping, and setting the Scope for 3" high @ 100yds......
And Yea, that Ghost-Ring is for all the Chit that happens in those alder brush thickets, and if you don't know what I'm talking about, you better stay in the Cabin, and keep the Coffee hot......

You still hunting sheep ol' timer? I guess you might because even I killed a goat at age 64, but I think you are at least 5 years older than me. Years ago, I read an article about an Alaska native that was still guiding for sheep at the age of 70. He chose not to get paid, but rather to be able to kill his own ram at the end of the season.

Ol-Timer hea, I like that, and as for Sheep Hunting, Yep, kinda like your Tag-Line hea, I was out for 12 days this year, saw some Sheep, but "No" Cigar, could of tagged out if this area was still 3/4 curl, that should give you some kind of an idea of where I was at, maybe,,,,,,, and yea, 73 this coming May, and I'm looking forward to next season.....

Well, you've got some time now to work on getting that knee in good shape again. Both you guys have 5 and 6 years on me, but I was actually thinking of putting in for that same goat permit. Only I'll be 67 by then, and it's a walk in. It wasn't easy back then but now that I just retired, I've got time to get into even better shape than I was before. Being a Remington, I usually install Remington factory irons. That way it looks like it came from the factory, and the height of the sights is already correct. They work fine when your scope craps out.

gunbugs, thanks for your reply, but I wasn't looking for that Rifle to be factory clone, it came out just as I had hoped it would,,,,,,, a One-Off Build, and it Handles & Shoots as Good today, as it did back Dec of 96......
