Nome fishing?

Hey Guys,
Going to spend a few months in Nome working a small construction project.
Would someone be kind enough to give me an idea of what size poles, line, etc, and what species of fish I can expect to look for on the road system from Nome?
Going up in a couple weeks and need to pack gear.
Im no fly fisherman, but have lite silver set ups,and med king rods, also trout rods, everything attached with bait casters. Kind of overwhelmed.

I used to live there when I was a kid and loved it. Finally went back this past summer with my best friend and had a blast. Granted it was a pretty *******ized trip, but I want to believe we had a good time. It helped that I had some family(brother) that still lived there, but overall it was definitely a trip a lifetime. Medium rods are perfect for the Nome River mouth, which is where most people fish. Bring lots of in-line spinners and pixies as those lures are king around those areas, as well as easy to purchase. Nome has silvers,chum and every other year pinks as well as sea run dollies, artic char, northern pike and grayling that can be caught from the road system. The mouth of the Nome river will have silvers, chum,dollies and pinks if you are there at the right time. For pike, you can drive out to the Kuzatrine or the Pilgrim rivers although it is a fair drive (60/70 miles) if I remember right. The Sinook River about 20 miles out of Nome can have pretty good dollie, grayling and silver fishing at the right time. The Neyukluk (sp) about 70miles out has silvers, grayling and dollies. There's probably others that I have forgotten as it's been over twenty years since I lived there. Some of the rivers have a few Kings but not a lot. My favorite lure was the silver Vibrax in sizes 2/4 for everything except grayling where I used mostly small mepps 0/1. Many people use the Pixie but I never liked the way it moves through the water. As the fish, except grayling and pike, migrate the fishing can be very good or very poor depending on your timing. Good luck. Wish I was going with you.

If I took one rod it would be a 6.5-7' medium action rod. Throwing spinners and pixies is the main use. Mouth of Nome River is a good spot for sure. Go past the bridge and work back right on the dirt road through a few small home/summer cabins to access the less crowded (by far) south side of the river mouth. Set up camp on a rising tide is my suggestion. Good fishing there and close to town. The grocery store (AC) sells all the pixies and blue vibrax spinners you could want. I also liked throwing the Mepps Cyclops spoons. For grayling, drive north to the Sinuk River and fish under the bridge and downstream of it. Also, take the Kugurok (msp ?) road east and you will see several spots within 10 miles of town where the Nome River parallels the road. Fish there of course and 5-8 miles from town there is a bridge. Park and walk down and fish under the bridge as that area held lots of salmon, chum especially. If you want a nice trip, head down to Council (summer cabin community of sorts) and fish for grayling. Would be best if someone there with a boat or in town with a boat took you. But there is some bank fishing for grayling for sure. This is a famous area of the state for grayling.
