New Bow

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation of an Archery Pro Shop in the Anchorage area, where I guy could be fitted for a new bow? Maybe even fire an arrow or two. I've heard of one place in Wasilla that was on the news looking for recommendations of a shop that will take some time to get a guy set up with what they need as the last time I took something with a bow was in 1989.

If you were near Wasilla I would say Fletchers. I don't know the new owner but the previous owner was fantastic.

Good to hear that. Wasilla is a bit closer to Valdez than Anchorage. Nice to hear that someone else is going to keep the business going.
I hate to loose any place that I can spend money on hunting equipment.

Scott and his family are doing things differently than Jerry and Barb did. Not better, necessarily, because Jerry and Barb contributed significantly to archery in S.C. Alaska, but they are doing a good job. Scott, his two daughters, and Jill his wife are all working in the shop. They are computerizing the inventory and re-setting the store. Overall they are doing a nice job.

They started a woman's target league and still have the 3D league, Friday night target league and kid's league on Saturday. The kids miss Jerry I think, but I'm helping Scott...as well as some other parents to keep things rolling. Jerry has a good way of coaching the kids and I hope they can start trusting me to help them too. The place was busy on Saturday after kid's league and it's been fairly busy on other days I've been in there too. Scott's family is super friendly and are learning the business quickly.

Is Fletcher's the shop just over the railroad tracks in Wasilla? What brand bows does he carry?

I am shopping for a new bow also, and would like to get my hands on an AR Velocity for size. (I shoot with fingers.) Sportsmans Warehouse is the dealer, but I wonder about their competence as pro shop. I do not want a dual cam bow as they appear to be an expensive headache.

Anybody know anything about the CSS brand?

YEs over the tracks.
He carries Mathwes, hoyts and if there is any other bow I can't remember.

Dual cams were originally an expensive headache, but Bowtech's bianary cam system seems to have solved that. By slaving the two cams together rather that to the opposite limb, they no longer have the timing issues that plagued the original dual cams. They have a good line of bows worthy of a look.

Frech is right Bowtech pretty much all but wiped out the dual cam timeing issues..But it would be nice too Know what could happen if the cams did go out of time..

Bought my first bow last spring from Fletchers in Wasilla. When i bought the bow I was able to shoot different bows until I found a Hoyt that I liked. Then they set it up for me and included some lessons. They have provided me with wonderful support. Always had time to answer any questions that I had. Never hesitated to look at my equipment to see if there was a problem. I was able to take a moose with the bow this fall thanks to their support in getting me the right equipment.

My wife had saved all her money and bought a new bowtech last month. I didnt set it up or give her any lessons as you know how the husband wife thing goes. I sent her out to Fletchers and she came back with a grin from ear to ear. She was so happy and she is shooting great afer they set her up and gave her a few lessons. They do wonderful work out there! I highly recomend them. Dont get your bow set up at Sportsmans warehouse. You can buy it there, just dont get it set up. Those guys dont really know what they are doing.

i always try and buy local. Bill at back country is very cool. I was in a pinch for a new bow for the fort rich hunt in o4. My old bow blew up, string came off and hit the cam and dented it and just didn't trust it for the hunt. Went to sportsmans and bought a parker pheoinx. Awesome bow. Looked at the bow techs but the kicked to much for me. Anyways they set me up. Went to bills the next time he was open i ruined a lot of arrows because it was that accurate. **** near had a robin hood with in the first 12 shots. Arrows are carbon though so it just shaved the fibers. But bill gave me a lot of pointers and set me up with broad heads and has a target just for broad heads. Wish i would have waited to buy from him but was in a pinch over the weekend and wanted to get ready. He has a pic of me and my moose. He was so happy to have helped. Plus his range is real nice. Two stories up to 30 yards I believe. So recomend local guys but sportsmans, at least the guy i had was real good. Good luck.
