Need a little help

I know that there's always a million "where should I go threads" every year but I have a little different situation so I'm coming here for help. My lovely bride enjoys spending every minute she can outdoors with me, she bought herself a shotgun this spring and we've been shooting all summer. She really wants to shoot some ducks, but due to a medical condition she isn't up to the death marches that I'm prone to leading. I have a square back canoe and a 5 horse outboard I bought just to help her and I spend time fishing and shooting ducks, I know it's probably not the best craft for the job but it was in our budget. I plan to rig a stabilizer and some type of blind for it this week.

What I don't have a real good grasp on is a place to take the Mrs and the little yellow canoe in the valley or portage area. If you have an idea and don't want to broadcast it feel free to pm me, I'll keep it hushed if you want. I've hunted the hayflats a bit and the maud road area once so I'm not too familiar with all the launches and whatnot.

Canoes are fine as long as you watch what you are doing. Rabbit slough is a decent spot as long as you don't mind paddling in. Google map it and look over the sat images and find a side canal or hole to dip off the main channel and you should be a able to find some birds

You need to paint that yellow canoe, awfully difficult to camo it unless you paint it first. There will always be some yellow showing someplace, usually several places. Once you have it hidden, you can go to either of the two places you mentioned and be successful once you learn the ropes. Bud

Whoa!!! I just read the other thread where you are bragging about only being out twice in the last 7 years where you havn't gotten a limit........and now you are asking for help on where to go. Seems we should be asking you. Bud

The man who signs my paychecks has a pair of duckshacks on the other side of cook inlet, he used to always offer to take any employee who wanted to go for the weekend free of charge, bring your shells and duck stamp. Needless to say I spent a bit of time over there shooting ducks with the occasional goose thrown in. Sadly things have changed and we haven't been over for two or maybe three years, I hung it up until last year when some guys on here invited me along and I hit the hayflats and maud with them, did well out there last fall but the Mrs isn't up for the three mile trudge.

You already have more knowledge than many others.. Your on the right track... Just need to think.. and execute. I think you already know where you need to go..

the two areas that have been mentioned is where you should focus.. Good luck and hope you and the Mrs have some great hunts..

I have never had an issue shooting my limit of ducks in Alaska, whether you want to believe that or not is up to you. I am young, in good shape, and built to walk, hike, or slog for hours. If all I wanted to do was kill another limit of ducks I would pull my waders on, load my pockets with shells and go do it.

I happen to be married to a wonderful young woman who has a physical disability that prevents her from engaging in long arduous marches through the muck. She didn't chose to have her condition, and neither did you or I, she enjoys time spent outdoors and would like to try her hand at duck hunting.

I don't know any places to take a small boat to get her a shot or two, we cannot afford to pay to be flown out to the places I used to hunt. If someone on here feels compelled to share a spot with me, we would be very grateful, if not so be it. I would be happy not firing a shot all season if she could get a bird or two and have a few good mornings on the marsh. I can do without your nonsense in the meantime sir.

Good luck with that. I've noticed a definitive lack of people wanting to help out/teach/share with others when it comes to hunting and fishing locales. There are exceptions, of course, and I've been fortunate enough to cross paths with a few here and there, but folks up here don't cotton to outsiders, so if you don't know the state's topography, you're kinda screwed.

Now, to be fair to those who don't wish to help out/teach/share with others, I can't say I blame them. I don't want a bunch of folks from the L48 coming up here either, but it is virtually impossible to break into the hunting/fishing game in Alaska alone.
