delays, delays

delays, delays

Actually, I meant paranoia on the part of the seller, such as when the guy who posted said they did the NICS call even though he had an exempt CCW. Sometimes the background check is turned over to another "Fedtoady" for a bit of short-lived further investigation during the initial call. This is not a delay. The delay is when the investigation supposedly undergoes deeper investigation that may last several days, three business days to be exact. You can actually call in if you haven't heard anything in a day or 2. Sometimes, in that case, you may get a verification, or not.
Even though I don't like making the call, and feel that it doesn't matter what a person has in their pocket, closet or backyard, as long as they don't create an undeserving victim, Alaska, at least so far, is far better off then most other states, like Hawaii and Kalifornia. Now, if the Democraps get in, well...

I had an FFL when the NICS system first came online, I was moving quite a few guns back then. The first few months were a mess, I got mostly delays. I finally started calling about every 15 minutes when I got a delay, they would get all torqued off but I would keep calling. I could usually get a "Ok fine, here's a proceed number" out of them by the 4th or 5th call.

Oh Allen, I did once get a denial on a female client, it was a lady I had known for years, she said she was told that a woman with the same name had been a get-away driver at a bank robbery. I think she went to the troopers or the FBI? ( I can't remember how that worked now) She gave them her SS# and got it cleared up...man did she ever get some ribbing over that. :)

Some dealers are ignoring the 3 day OK to sell and are waiting for the call back from the FBI. The ATF folks are recommending that dealers do this, even though it is legal to transfer after the 3 working days of no reply.
Its only gonna get harder for some folks to purchase firearms from dealers. Thats the way it is and it ain’t gonna get better any time soon.

And where are you reading this information? All the regulation books I received from the BATFE are quite clear on when to let the firearm go.

Its not in the regs. However, Agents are recommending that FFL's consider waiting till the final call back before proceeding.

I know of 2 dealers now doing just that. The profits on guns anymore sucks. These dealers are just staying on the good side of the ATF agents. To much BS these days I don't blame them.

If you don't believe me call your agent up and ask how they recommend to proceed in the case of "Delayed".

ccw check

ccw check

i just renewed mine this year and here is what i did you can get a regular ccw permit you still do a background check with troopers and they issue it fairly quickly or you can get a nics exempt but you must provide fingerprints card and photos and pay an additional fee the cost was like another 80 bucks and it took a lot longer my front now says nics exempt and i have not been called in with this one.

Several days before I sent in my renewal (the first time) I called and asked what I had to do. The woman said to send in the two finger print cards (cost $10 a piece) and the money along with the application and I should get it back shortly.

Don't bet on it. Almost a month later I got it all back saying they could not issue exempt cards. My application was now delinquent but they were magnanimous and allowed me to send in the renewal anyway (nice of them).

So I now have a card that does not allow me to buy guns without a hassle. Some improvement! Jim
